Re: Versions for Mac and other computers

I don't see how you can even list yourselves on the main BOINC page without explicit caveats that you will not allow the general multi-platform BOINC client to function on your projects.

Re: Versions for Mac and other computers

Is this a reference to the fact that our server requires the Secure Socket Layer protocol to communicate, which was only introduced in the 5.2.x releases of BOINC?

It would be helpful to have that on the main BOINC page. Why not drop the people who maintain that site a note? Are we the only project using this communication protocol?

Added: tongue That got taken care of quickly. Here is the new line at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/
World Community Grid: advance our knowledge of human disease. (Requires 5.2.1 or greater)

Re: Versions for Mac and other computers

We listed ourselves on the main BOINC page because we want to get the word out that we launched our BOINC support on November 1st for HPF. We initially only supported Linux. Two weeks later we brought our BOINC/Windows version online. Our goal is to eventually launch any new project across the platforms on day one, but we are a small team and this has not been possible. Our next BOINC milestone will be FightAIDS@Home for Linux.

We try to be very clear on our website about which BOINC platforms we support.

Thanks

Re: Versions for Mac and other computers

I've been reading through the forum and can't find anything that gives me an idea when a Mac version will be available. Can someone post something with an update on that topic? Since I may forget to keep checking the forum, is it possible to get on an email list so that I can be advised of progress in the Mac version?

Re: Versions for Mac and other computers

Hello FraterG,
With one exception, I have not heard anything about the Mac since the big push got started to get BOINC online and board FAAH. There is a lot left to be done on these tasks and more projects are coming down the pipeline.

The exception is one statement that knreed made this week that Mac OS X is next, after Linux. But my personal, unofficial guess is that it will not come anytime in the first quarter of 2006, when we will be wrestling with new projects.

There is no email list. But we did send out a newsletter for the first time this week to our registered members so maybe an email list will be implemented some day.
