Congratulations for starting a project that again addresses one of the mankind's most imminent challenges! Food crises and higher prices are not only a danger for the health and well being of billions of people, but also a danger for peace in the effected countries.

Hi everyone!
----------------------------------------2 X1900AIW I think in any case these result will be used for future researches. Hopefully by several organization (because WCG result will be public in any case), but definitely by the project author's organization. And at some point results (not from WCG, but based on these ones) can and probably will be patented. I don't think it is wrong and I would gladly participate knowing that maybe some day even patented final results will help to overcome food crisis. Hi DmitrIO,
![]() Once information is in the public domain, it can be used by all plant breeders, whether they are university or government supported or employed by private corporations. The results from our computers are free for all. Lawrence |

woowoo
----------------------------------------woowoo This is a wonderful idea for a project. The more public domain stuff there is on food commodities, the the better for consumers in the global market. Right now, speculation is kicking everyone's rear's, and benefiting mo one, except traders and large holdings doing hedging... Already got my download! ![]() edited for inappropriate language...cih [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 14, 2008 2:00:32 PM] |

We have a script running that is updating everyone's project preferences to select the project. You can do it manually by going to your "My Projects" page, but everyone will have the project selected by default when the script finishes. I'm relatively new here but it just seems WRONG to automatically opt people in to new projects. Shouldn't WE decide which projects we want to donate our resources too?? ![]() |

This kind of research is going to become ever more important as the world struggles to feed itself - I wish it every success ![]() Just got my first WU's....estimating around 7hrs on a Q6600 at the moment ![]() I think they're all supposed to take 8 hours. |

I'm relatively new here but it just seems WRONG to automatically opt people in to new projects. Shouldn't WE decide which projects we want to donate our resources too?? You do get to decide. But using "opt-in" on all projects isn't practical. Projects end, and if WCG used that method, then eventually everybody would be signed up for no projects. The majority of members are happy to run any project that World Community Grid have approved to run on the grid - WCG have very high standards for projects, and they all have humanitarian aims. Opting out is easy if you aren't interested in a project, or if you want to concentrate on a single WCG project. There has been much discussion in the past about the way to opt people in and out. Ultimately, this way seems to work best. In the future, it is possible (and hoped) that WCG will provide more fine-grained controls, that let you say something like "I want to work exclusively on this project until it ends". But that's in the future still. |

Well, after having the first of these WU's error out this morning, I have no idea which ones of the following are updated or original. Anyone have an idea which I should be aborting and which have been "fixed"?
