Re: Badges... Who's got badges

I have to believe that WCG Admin sees that an acknowledgement for 100 years is logical and recognition for 32 or 64 years is too geeky, because you can't get from 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, etc to 100 although you can easily get from 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, etc to 100 logically.

I think you're right, so gambling on 5 years seems to be the strategy when you want to lift Sapphire up to a higher level (whenever it will arrive in the future).

Re: Badges... Who's got badges

Do I do wonder how much the badges distorts things. But then again maybe I'm worried that a 5, 10 year badge would result the large crunchers concentrating on the new projects as they arrive, making it harder to the little guys (like me) to get anything....

But anything that encourages more crunching is a good thing in the end.

Re: Badges... Who's got badges

I would have imagined the opposite.
If 5, 10 or more years badges do appear I would suppose that big crunchers would first try to get them so stay on projects were they have the maximum crunching time.

Typically there is more than enough work to go around for everyone to get badges because even the big crunchers really don't amount to a significant percent of the total work crunched. In the rare event that big crunchers start to take so many WUs that nornal people have don't get many WUs for that particular project, WCG has demonstrated sucessfully in the past that they can release the WUs in small batches throughout the day which gives everyone a better chance to get some.

Much less than you might think. If you look at the daily individual lists you will see that the top 10 members total about 50 % of the daily time that a single project gets. That's much, but that is also 50 % left for other members.

Also, even if the #1 cruncher decided to have all its machines crunching exclusively on a new project for raising it to 25 years as fast as possible, that would last only 4 or 5 days! So the possible trouble would not last long. smile

Bottom line: don't worry! Jean.

Re: Badges... Who's got badges

Something in the Lambrusco Amabile, D.O.C., year unknown... 579 days CPU time needed to raise all currently upgradeable project badges by one level.

drooling
