Okay, I was basically doing the right thing but you wonder when you're not familiar with what you're looking for. As expected, the two laptops don't have the nVidia adapter but neither does the desktop. Oh well. Is your desktop a full tower (the cards are long)? In most current OTC PC's the vid card is on the MB. Do you have an empty PCI Express slot or a vid card in it? What's the power supply? Does it have a spare 4-pin power connection? If yes's let me know ... Santa might come early. ![]() HINT: You'll have to take the cover off it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dataman at Sep 25, 2008 3:45:16 AM] |

And apparently F@H is going to support ATI cards too! |

Good morning all. The quad has kicked in! This morning's half day stats have me at 11,611 points. That is more than my daily total for any entire day since August 14.

Good morning all. The quad has kicked in! This morning's half day stats have me at 11,611 points. That is more than my daily total for any entire day since August 14. That's great ... I'm amazed you got them out of jail that fast. Quads are not really the answer. Nvidia graphics cards are though. Too soon to tell. The technology is there but not the projects to run on them. If you look at PS3's server status, they have less than 300 WU's ready to send at any given time and the whole project consists of less than 500 participants. Heck. when I completed my first WU, I jumped up 64 positions and after a half dozen I'm ranked 304 on the project. ![]() Good Morning MOT. ![]() ![]() |

I think F@H is more advanced than PS3grid since F@H apparently lets you use four cores AND your graphics card. Yes, F@H has been around considerably longer but only supports PS3's as far as I can tell. I tried to attach to F@H using the BOINC 6.3.10 GPU client without success. Did you find a BOINC client that supports cards for F@H? Both projects have very short return times (PS3grid/4 days & F@H/2 days) for wu's with runtimes ~8 to 24 hours. I think this elimates all but the most serious, full-time crunchers. Last, Berkeley does not seem to be puting much effort into getting their GPU clients out of Beta. This leaves one at risk of running a client that does not support other core-run projects. For example WCG does not support BOINC 6.3.x but so far I've had no problems running WCG wu's on the machine with the 8800 GT. I'm sure it will sort out over time as you certainly can do some killer crunching on a good vid card. ![]() ![]() |

Just a word of caution about the new Nvidia chips. There seem to be some issues with the silicone as evidenced by the reserves on the Balance Sheet for...."resolving" issues. Just a FWIW.
