We are now at 72,492,883 for the year. That's 7,507,117 to go in 26 days to hit 80 million or 288,735 per day. We need about another 20K points a day. OK fine... I'm coming back to WCG. Probably to the detriment of my Boinc Stats, but Blizzie was going to catch me anyway. Uh, won't you just be getting more WCG credits and less QMC credits? I thought PS3GRID was GPU only? |

I have a few more computers that I can fire up. Not powerhouses, but they will thump along pretty good... ![]() Every bit helps. Old P4s still crunch and points are points. Thanks!! |

He'll be bringing back all his cores to WCG now so we hit the goal for the year. PS3Grid (GPUGrid part) is GPU only. |

I fired up a new Quad last night. It went into sleep overnight but I have been tweeking it this morning. It has an Intel I7 920 processor and plenty of DDR3 memory. It should help some. ![]() All my computers are named for characters from Lord of the Rings (how geeky is that?) Anyway this new one is Gimli (Dwarf King) (...very dangerous over short distances) ![]() Nice RT! Do you have a Galardriel (sp)? She was always one that looked nice in the calendars! ![]() ![]() |

I don't mind running a beta wu now and then but I am getting way too much. I just noticed one of my quads had 3 of the 4 processors working on Beta. I aborted one of them because it ticked me off and almost aborted the other two even though they have about 11 hours of CPU on them. How do I throttle the amount of Beta work down? ![]() You can only turn it off completely. --- All I need to do is give my Quad a 9800GT Jonathan... ![]() I just aborted another. It had been running over 11 hours and had 81 more hours to go. Now for a long time, I have had a few projects selected and not the "If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, please send me work from another project. " At least I think that is the case and yet I get them. Unless there is something else I can do that I do not know about, I should not get any more. By the way, I have noticed several HPFII WUs getting errors. I hope this isn't just me...I have noticed on two different machines. Interesting, you don't want betas and get them, I want them and don't! Oh well. No problems here with HPF2 wu's. |

Anyway this new one is Gimli (Dwarf King) (...very dangerous over short distances) ![]() Nice RT! Do you have a Galardriel (sp)? She was always one that looked nice in the calendars! ![]() ![]() Gimli is indeed a mini-tower..not one of the new compact ones but since Gandalf (the Core2 9550 is a full tower) the size thought did cross my mind. Anyway he was a likable character. BTW, it takes 7 WUs simultaneously to keep that puppy busy and then not fully so. I don't understand that since it is really a quad and while the opsys thinks there are 8 cores 4 of them are just supplemental (Hyper-Threads). Anyway, I think I will crank it up to 8 today and watch it. As to the female of the series, I have two computers named for females in the books/films. First was Arwen..Liv Taylor The "Elvin Kind" that ends up marrying Aragorn (the king at the end of the series). That computer was given to my daughter-in-law and eventually passed into somewhere in lower-middle-earth (Mississippi). I think it is still operational with some distant in-law. Now Arwen was my favorite and dare I say the most alluring. The second computer named for a female is the one that my wife now has (first she had Arwen). It is Eowyn. Eowyn is the daughter of Theoden and also falls for Aragorn. Her best line is in response to the question "...then what are you afraid of?" It is a well-turned phrase that has passed through my mind many times as a comment on society. I have yet to name one after Galadriel (another Elven kind and owner of the water mirror that showed both Sam and Frodo "things that have not yet have come to pass"). I sent off Gollum and Saruman to Marysduby a couple of years ago. In my house are Elrond and Samwise(a laptop) along with Gandalf, Eowyn and now Gimli. The first laptop (Frodo) I owned is now being used by my daughter-in-law. If and when I get another, it will be Merry (the third of the traveling Hobbits). There are several others that have gone astray. Legolas is somewhere in Southern California haven been given to a tester when we (TeamTNT) were developing DOOMII projects *many* moons ago. My son has Theoden and my daughter has Faramir. No, I am not nearly as geeky as all this sounds. It is just that I like that series and needed some way to name computers and it seemed a fit. OK maybe I am.. Now as to the Betas and the failures of the HPFII WUs. I suspect that it may have something to do with me running 64bit processors and Operating Systems. Have a great Sunday All! ![]() EDIT>A spelling error. ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by RT at Dec 7, 2008 12:36:33 PM] |

The i7 has 4 cores but 8 threads so it's considered a "Octo" core. It is not a true Octo just yet. I'm not sure how crunching on those virtual cores will turn out though.
64 bit operating system should not affect crunching by producing bad work unit results. |

QMC grants more points per hour than WCG and both are humanitarian. But my real loyalties are to WCG and MOT. |
