I can't get BOINC 6.3.21 installed. It says "Error reading setup initialization file"

I've had that happen to me if you downloaded from GPUGrid. Only part of the file may have downloaded. Check your file size. It should be 7,695 kb for that build. If not, delete it, delete your temp internet files and download the version you need (Vista 32 or 64 bit) directly from Berkeley:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/

Fun, eh? biggrin GPU's are still in a primitive state. My 9800GTX is down because I did a stupid thing and installed 6.4.1 ... it's not working with 64-bit Vista. crying

Oh. I can't transfer my current work units over to the 64 bit version? It's BOINC Manager. I suppose it's different?

Edit:

I installed the 32 bit version and it seems to pick up my old work units.

Does this look right? It downloaded a ton of GPUGrid work units but it only shows 2? I hate Beta software...

Also why does it do a "Suspending computation - initial delay" when I start it up?
And it's okay if I leave the resource share at 50%?

Yes there are several files downloaded for one wu. It will dl 4 wu's initially and get one more as each one completes. Do you have 4 cores and 1 GPU running? I don't know about supending comp ... post the message and maybe I can help.

Yes, Vincent all GPU crunching is Beta ... 6.4.1 is alpha ... biggrin I'm having hard time tooooooo. biggrin

Ah.. this is confusing. It better not burn out my video card. crying

When I start the BOINC client it suspends for about 2 minutes before starting. Is there a way to turn that option off?

And it's fine having 50% resource share on WCG and GPUGrid right?

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 31 smilesmile

Those two minutes are for faster startup. See here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=22403
Don't know about turning that off.
Version 6.2 of the World Community Grid BOINC software is now available

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The major enhancements of the 6.2.28 client over the 5.10.45 client are as follows:

The research applications will not start running until two minutes after BOINC has started. This will help some computers start up faster.

I tuned of autorun for WCG on bootup... I don't want it to run on it's own. And I don't want it to delay when I manually open it. sad

Morning all. Winter finally came to Texas. It was in the 30's here over night. We may have to start wearing a shirt while we are swimming. tongue

Hey Dataman. What is your KWH rate? I am running about $.14 at the moment. And... Are all those cores just for crunching?

It's tiered and the rates increased in Oct. sad

Baseline Quantity 247.50000 Kwh
Baseline Usage 247.50000 Kwh @ $0.11550
101-130% of Baseline Kwh @ $0.13131
131-200% of Baseline Kwh @ $0.24725
201-300% of Baseline Kwh @ $0.38443
Over 300% of Baseline Kwh @ $0.41059

Yes I have 32 cores but have shut down all but 18 ... may go lower. crying

Hum.... They really go after you when you use more than someone thinks you should. Problem is that someone you don't even know and that does not know you decides how much you should use and punishes you if you use more regarless of what it is being used for. Something about that that doesn't smell right even though it is probably a well-intentioned conservation measure.

I guess you are going to have to give up lighting, refrigeration and your electric blanket to keep the cores crunching. rolling eyes

Abrupt subject change:

When that entire graphics card crunching gets going well with WCG, I will jump in. In the mean time, I sincerely appreciate you guys helping work out the bugs; makes it easier for the rest of us.

Regards All

Yes it is confusing. No you can't turn it off (I think it will be in all future releases to allow your start deck to complete before BOINC eats the machine biggrin ) The 50/50 is meaningless as the GPU should only be using 0.1 % of 1 cpu. The "to completion" and 'cpu time" is pretty much meaningless too for the card.

My 9800GTX is still not working. I'm going to try completly uninstalling/reinstalling 6.3.21 today if I have time.

Now they want to make it time dependent too ... charging even higher prices during the day and less at night. I'm going to build a high-sulpher, coal-fired PC just to get even. laughing biggrin laughing
