Morning all
smile smile smile smile smile
Cheerful news, now thats a Hard one.
I know, Engerrland winning against the Windys That'll do it .
***************************
Gamblers all.
We is such a lucky team, remember I won With Ernie about three Weeks back , now Ivan. smile
Working on the theory things coming in 3's
One of us is about to get lucky with the local brownies or WI raffle lets hit it while we are on a winning streak wink
++++++++++++++++
The Nipon Reactor fiasco goes from bad to worse so much misinformation being spouted by the media . And lack of proper info from Tokyo power company . Going back to the start of happenings Why didn't the Americans get called in they have Bases in Japan Large load carrying helicopters could have bought in emergency generators to drive the cooling water pumps. the power requirement
for these pumps is small but essential that they are working .
in the first couple of days there was no nuclear hazard so workers could have made connections in safe conditions.
What the heck the choppers are doing now is not understandable
water being dropped onto a building isn't going to keep the fuel cool. The fuel is contained inside sealed pressure vessels .
Tony asked why the fuel couldnt be removed?
When the reactor is refuelled it is shut down and nuclear reaction is stopped using control rods made from Boron these rods adsorb the neutrons stopping the chain reaction " That is as it is now "( what we dont have is the subsequent cooling systems.)
at the same time the fuel is physically cooled using water this of course creates steam.
and in reactor systems I have worked on this is cooled back to water using a Dump condenser or the condenser on the turbine there should have been no pressure build up in the containment housing the fuel. The steam/ Hydrogen venting caused as far as I can see the explosion in an outer building
This steam also held some fission products "Contamination" which we have seen has spread over the surrounding district
The contamination is there because it is possible some of the fuel has broken down if this comes in contact with the sea water which is untreated un filtered and contains salts These thing will react with the nuclear fuel.
Again on reactors I have worked on the reactor has as one of many monitoring systems BCD Burst cartridge Detection. this detects failure of the fuel Cartridge or Can a small breach will allow fission products into the cooling circuit and these are picked up by the BCD the faulty fuel elements removed the cooling circuit purged and the world is kept safe.
As I said earlier in the week these reactors are well past their sell by date and It was planned to close and decommission them last year
They are now a big headache

http://www.wano.info/

WANO is the World Association of Nuclear Operators

And I would hope that they are in touch
If only to say "I told you to shut those pigs down Last Year "

Top of the morning ta yus arll good luck

Den ....
I slept in a wee bit this morning, and having read ya post me thinks oil creep back under the sheets. sad

"Don't panic Mr mannering" crying
I'm even more convinced that Nuclear power stations are not the way forward! I reckon it to be like holding a Tiger by the tail, eventualy it will turn around and bite your arm off and then eat you!.

On another note ....
The dithering over the conflict in Libya will come back to haunt the whole of the western world including the USA.
NATO and the UN are obviously barking dogs with no teeth, 'or guts' made sterile by their own beaurocracy.
I wonder what Mrs Thatcher would have done!!?

Enjoy your day wink rose good luck

Evening all

Overcast and cool today and similar weather promised for the next few days. So I should be so happy that our climate is not subject to the enormities faced by Japan.

I did experience an earthquake tremor when living in Bebington with the source in North Wales. It was early in the morning and the bed jumped an inch or two. It was enough to give me a sample of the power generated and thank the Gods that it's a rare event here.

'Yawn' moaning all sleep

I feel as if I've been hit by a train, grandchildren had a sleep-over as mum had an evening at the theatre, (kids are hard work these days,) love them to bits but big sighs of relief when they went to school at 8.30! d oh House all quiet now but looks like it's been blitzed, cup of strong tea me thinks before tackling the house work.

Have a good day and a great weekend all ... good luck rose

Evening all

No sunshine here but I have got a winning lottery ticket and am having difficulty what great things I can make with my tenner.

Just weighing up exactly what a tenner buys nowadays. I know Our leaders going to come up with "when I was younger ......... A gay weekend in Paris with change left over for the bus fare home and a pkt of woodbines devilish
but Today..... a couple of cinema tickets with one cuppa tea...
or one and a half gallons of diesel
or approx 34 ciggies
Five pints of Boddingtons round here @ £2.05 a pint
Or two pints in Kensington £4.02 pence a pint
or one bottle of Black Stump Reserve Shiraz 2009 £8.50
Or from Tesco a couple of bottles Inycon Sicilia Shiraz Vineyard Selection 75cl @£3.80
Or a Fish supper;
London Fish and Chip Shop £5.00
Cheltenham Fish and Chip Shop £4.87
Suffolk Fish and Chip Shop £2.50
Safe bet would be to treat her indoors to a nice pot plant smile
Have to go now or I'll miss the end of housewife's choice
and its Mrs Elricks wee son George presenting it
