Good Morning!
A brighter horizon being blotted over with thick, gray clouds, still dry and not much wind, and still no white winter .... it may come later in the week they say ... |

Evening all Good on you Ted. What practical tasks do you make for yourself to spend the evenings on without the box in the corner. Morning all, I tend nowadays to tuck myself up in the corner with a good book or walk with Dog, TV seems to be nothing but repeats, and as for the news, well I am fed up hearing that personalities I have grown up with are all dying off like flies! Whats up with them? They aint that old I do occasionally watch a DVD which I tend to pick up second hand at car boot fairs. Bit chilly again outside. Hope you are all well and have a good day. ![]() |

Evening all
I've also got two books on the go and my No daughter's' Christmas present is normally the Booker short list so I'm OK for a couple of weeks or so. I may also been one of the few who have read all of the complete works of Shakespeare. I was given a leather bound complete works some 50 years ago and have always come back to it when I had run out of other books to read. |

The captain of the crippled Costa Concordia cruise ship, Francesco Schettino, has reportedly said the reason he was in a life boat while thousands of panic-stricken passengers and crew were trying to evacuate was because he “tripped” and fell into the rescue craft.

Much as I love books
----------------------------------------and my oldest is a dictionary dated 1731 and shelves of books I have read and loved I like biography, travel books, and the odd historical tome http://www.billbryson.co.uk/about.html Bill Bryson life from a small island gives an outsiders view of UK he also relates his young life back in the Usa warts and all in The Thunderbolt kid and made in America he has views on lots of things Bill down under is great ,A walk in the woods about walking the Appalachian trail continually worried about bears and others on the trail he has views on owld will shakespere and the mother tongue he lived for some years in Uk with his Yorkshire born wife returned to the USA but is now back in England he is chair or president of Campaign to Protect Rural England.. such a nice bloke with a warm voice & also I like mike Tomkies A natural history buff lives in Scotland but wrote much about in Espania a man who went in search of Spanish wild cats lynx & lammingers . search him out , Driving over lemons , The parrot in the Pepper tree, and the Almond Blossom appreciation society written by an old rocker who went to live in rural spain cant bring his name to mind just now ah its just come to me Chris Stewart . A bit like Peter Mayles a year in Province the but the Spanish version I wonder if we were in the cinema at the same time Ivan in east grinstead I was there often on a Wednesday afternoon there was a "caff" where I ate cheese on toast and a coffee with young ladies prior to the show .( yes I know the last of the big spenders ) lol I cannot remember the name of the "flea pit" " Radio" something ? Oxted also had a picture house but cannot recall the name Tunbridge wells had the Essoldo and the opera house? and Edenbridge The "Negrseco" what was it with the Italian leaning names ?? The tv is a great resource this week we have Prof Brian Cox telling us about the happenings in space over three nights filmed from Joderal bank Loval telescope . dont miss it go to the bbc iplayer to catch up well worth watching . its featured clips of Patrick Moore who was a DC of our scout's group (12th Tonbridge) He must have lived quite lived quite near East-grinstead and my girl friend at the time worked in a chemists where he used to bring his films in for development often they would be blank new unexposed films ? So a somewhat eccentric chap in the late 50's I can give you one Quote from him at a later date talking about light pollution when he must have moved further south was the street lighting created Aurora Bogner Regis clouding his night sky view his observatory was a very basic tin shed . a great guy using available things at the period I have never hired a dvd film just as I have never been in a Mac D's or KFC ---------------------------------------- [Edit 5 times, last edit by densnaps at Jan 18, 2012 6:55:38 PM] |
