Re: Forum Issues - Please post here

I have noticed this when I am in Recent Threads. I scroll down a couple of pages and find a thread of interest and click on the thread. When I return to the Recent Threads (using back arrow) I am at the top of the page when I think I should be returned to the page where I was when I clicked the specific thread. Very annoying when I am many pages down.

Re: Forum Issues - Please post here

The object of shortened links of the very long ones is so they do not push the right margin off the display as you'll have figured, so guess you'll have to do the right click copy link to get the full address. Not found how else to copy these any other way.

https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/devi...ileConfiguration.do?name=

Links like that ^^^^^ are what I had in mind.

Sorry my previous explanation wasn't enough for you to see the point.

Since there's apparently no way for the forum software to avoid it, I guess I just won't click links here. Spammers/phishers aren't going to purposely make it easy for you to avoid their sites.

Thanks anyway.

Re: Forum Issues - Please post here

Here's what I see.

Shortened address or no shortened address, the only way to know 100% sure a link is save is to hover or right click to see where it's going, particular with first time posters that signed up 5 minutes ago who'll tell they have the cure for all ailments.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your concern. Surely the techs will read this and pitch in. After all WCG likes for all to feel 'save' when visiting here.

Re: Forum Issues - Please post here

In the "recent threads" view, it seems I can't go any further than page 14.

Re: Forum Issues - Please post here

Hi,

Would imagine that Recent Threads means exactly that and no more than the first ~300 threads are listed, minus threads that are in forums exclusive to the admins and techs. 15 pages at 20 posts default would account for what you see [when your member name appears right top].

Does that make sense?

edit: confirmed, my forum default is 50 posts per page, when signed in. I see only threads on the RT listed for the first 6 pages.

Re: Forum Issues - Please post here

OK, I didn't see it that way, but I understand your point.

I just used the recent threads to catch up with the news by reading the posts from the last time I came to the forum.
It's true that today I wanted to catch up for more than 30 days of absence...
I guess I'll never know what happened between 2 and 18 september ;-)

I think this issue is the result of all the deleted post in that period of time. Page 54 is working just fine. But it seems like the forum software catch the deleting process in the recent view.

Guess so too, unless you look for something specific or broader in a group or specific forum. For instance the new search facility allows to set search from certain time points like 1 month ago and select older or newer, if the word is in the title or the body or both and up to 100 results per page. I just did that for the BOINC moniker in the Support forums only and it was jackpot.

h ttp://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/search?offset=0&key=BOINC&member=&scopeinpost=3&forum=-3&date=30&beforeafter=2&minattach=0&sort=1&rows=100

Something new learned today... search by e.g. only Support, Active Research, Official Messages etc., as those are the areas that interest me, mostly.

@kskjold, you make it sound like a big pile of threads was removed... not many were taken off-line. The most causing gaps is as I said the posts you're not seeing in forums you have no viewing rights to. CA forum, Admin forum and such.

Re: Forum Issues - Please post here

There have been a bunch of empty slots on September 18. If you skip all the empty pages (about 700 posts!) you will be able to go on with your catch up session. smile

Have fun! Jean.

Re: Forum Issues - Please post here

To get from where I was on the forum to here, posting and not be directed time and again to another place I will not complain about [is this a complaint?].

Small cosmetics. WCG is set on my browser at 105% magnification... which is what I can comfortably read without squinting or need to crawl on top of the screen. With this % and a few more such as 140%, the My Grid text in top bar wraps. It does not do that outside the forums.

A feature suggestion. We can click the posting member link on the forum to be presented with the Forum profile. How about adding to the profile a link the to member's statistics?

And one that was bound to pop up where a member could not figure out where all the information went from the Research button over the forum e.g. the scientists page. Same button functionality as the front page would be great [if not already scheduled].

cheers
