Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Just read yet another article on Nuclear Power in light of events in Japan

One extract reads

"Critics continue to argue that there will never be a truly safe nuclear power plant, and it’s true: Any time you split atoms, there’s risk. But nuclear plants have one thing going for them that hasn’t changed since the leak at Fukushima. They generate badly needed electricity without creating greenhouse gases that cause global warming."

So....

If the World wasn't actually warming due to our creation of so called greenhouse gases

What would nuclear plants have going for them?

Herein the above lies the lie. Which is it?

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Whenever I see GW being debated (existance, causes), I find myself wondering why the debate is necessary. At least in terms of what should be done to curb it.

My thinking, is that GW shouldn't be a prerequisite for us, as human beings, to endeavour to find ways to be better stewards of the world we live in.

http://earthhour.wwf.org.uk//?pc=AGT004001&gclid=CLTQrq-97KcCFQod4QodzkpUaQ

It's put yourself in the dark hour today whoohoo

I wonder why we have something called enlightenment smile

Anniekenes I am right behind you with the good stewardship

It's just that Man Made Global Warming aka Anthropogenic Global Warming aka "Climate Change" aka "Global climate disruption" has nothing to do with taking care of the resources we have and living in a sustainable manner.

Nothing at all

Just one case in point being the new nuclear deployment going ahead in it's name

Progress is not however always bad thing it enables us to do more with less. Check out the thread in my sig. One of our projects is the Clean Energy Project

There's nothing wrong with Solar, Wind, Wave, River, Tidal, Hydro, Geothermal and Combined Heat and Power schemes derived from our rubbish and biomass from agriculture that is required to feed us - all of which reduce our dependency on fossil fuels.

Let's not demonise CO2, without which there is no life on earth, and make the mistake of embracing Cs-137 as the greatest (and greenest) thing since sliced bread in it's place.

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

This response to the 1p cut in duty so that petrol is now £1.32-9 a litre makes me smile

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/georgem...-green-fuel-duty-planning

The "greenest government ever" has delivered the blackest budget in living memory. It provides a roaring incentive to use more oil, just as we might be heading towards an oil crisis. It has given the green light to the aviation industry to keep expanding, despite the government's promise to limit its impact. It has made a mockery of green investment.

A roaring incentive to use more oil laughing

ROFLMAO

We just can't get enough of the cheap petrol sloshing around our fuel tanks in the UK

We've gone wild making totally unnecessary journey's due to this bonanza biggrin

Monbiot the comic genius clown
