scaled in Megawatts See full page here http://www.nationalgrid.com/uk/Electricity/Data/Realtime/Demand/Demand8.htm The amazing effect of Earth Hour 2011 in the UK (see above electricity consumption in the UK over the last 7 days) Me for Earth Hour I cooked my evening meal, washed up with hot clean water. Washed my clothes. Hoovered around and charged all the rechargeable batteries, in my phone, my camera and toothbrush while crunching through 15 hours worth of Clean Energy Project, Help Fight Childhood Cancer, Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy, Help Conquer Cancer, Computing for Clean Water, Fight Aids at Home and Human Proteome Folding Work Unit's. All while being kept warm by the Electricity the storage heaters took from the Grid last night. Being able to see in the dark courtesy of CFL's You know all the benefits in terms of health, wellbeing and safety that Electricity brings to society when reliably and safely generated by fossil fuels today. I can't say that I really paid much attention to when "earth hour" actually was... I was too busy doing something more worthwhile... (video games) But, so far, I've bumped up my WCG CPU usage by an additional 5% and turned the (natural gas) heat back on... 'cause it's flipping cold here in the midwestern US today. (There's one for the CEP folks... power from cold? freeze your extremities for science?) |
