Hi everybody
----------------------------------------I understand very well the disappointment of some (many) crunchers. I too would like to participate to DDDT2 or beta more actively. Even I provided over 48 years of CPU time within 3.3 years, I did receive only few beta WUs and only 2 DDDT2 since the project launch although my devices are reliable and online 24/7. During this time, my devices are working for other projects (I am aware that after the saphir badge there are no further badges ... so what ! ...). The most important thing is to support project as faithfully as possible. I am a normal human, I like to receive badges. However, I have to set priority: project participation is much more important than spending time for micro-management in order to earn a new badge quicker than other members. Normally, we are contributing for years. We should be able to be simply patient. Have a good time ! Yves |

AFter being away on holiday for just over a week, I come back to see the same old discussion ongoing - namely, the scarcity of DDDT2 WU's.
----------------------------------------Perhaps, now is the time to actually make this project officially "Intermittent", then people may see/understand for once and for all, that this project (as stated right at the beginning), will have periods in time when there's no WU's available. ![]() |

Perhaps, now is the time to actually make this project officially "Intermittent", then people may see/understand for once and for all, that this project (as stated right at the beginning), will have periods in time when there's no WU's available. I guess you missed the announcement. The project is fully active, since the Scientists and Techs are working continuously on it. It is just that the release of WU is intermittent. Just because it looks intermittent to the crunchers doesn't make the project intermittent. There are actually people, other than crunchers, who work on these projects.Since the intermittent release of WU is what the scientists want/need to do, that is how the project is being managed. We need to deal with that. |

We need to deal with that. Yes astrolab, I fully understand the procedure that this project runs under (i.e. the fact that, for long periods, there'll be no WU's available). Unfortunately though, some people just see the very small picture (i.e. WU availability), and forget that there's a far larger picture in the background. Thus, my suggestion of changing the status of this project to "Intermittent" (I believe that, right at the beginning, it was discussed as to which status this, one off project should run under). ![]() |

JmBoullier: 1. There is no issue (e.g. program bugs or distribution problems) that I know of. ... What about the Type C WUs that gave Error -161 or whatever, discussed in the problematic batches? thread? Has this problem been fixed, or if these errors are to be allowed to happen, is a fair credit system in place yet?Other guesses about the current delay: * It's been a long weekend for a religious anniversary, so the scientists & techs are taking a break; * We have just crunched the first or one of the first, full production batches of Types A, B and C WUs, and the scientists want to analyse the results before committing more of your and my CPU time to the project, just in case changes need to be made. "Patience is a virtue" - by I. Dunno Meanwhile, let us - you, me and all the other virtuous people - keep crunching our 2nd- and 3rd-favourite (etc) projects. ![]() |

Knreed:"Yes - we released the fix to the -161 issue late yesterday (the file that isn't produced will not cause an error if it doesn't exist and the validator can check this condition properly). I apologize for not posting about it here. There are two other categories of errors that we are looking into. However, those occur with less frequency. These are the errors that are listed as '193', '-1073741819' or '29'. 193 and -1073741819 appear to be the same error (193 occurs on Linux while -1073741819 occurs on Windows). We are continuing to investigate these."
Sekerob:"OK, don't worry, it's licked. No more -161's we should see :D" So it is alredy fixed |

Thus, my suggestion of changing the status of this project to "Intermittent" (I believe that, right at the beginning, it was discussed as to which status this, one off project should run under). Then the project would show separately in the Device Profile. Not bad. I guess it would then depend on how that might effect the task distribution algorithm on the server. |

Rickjb,
----------------------------------------To complement Randzo's answer, WUs which returned an error code 161 before the fix have been post-credited their CPU time "full size", and similar WUs returned after the fix are no longer raising the error condition. They only look shorter. The code 161 corresponds to a pair of molecules "with no future", a normal situation that the original designers of the CHARMM package had unfortunately chosen to report via the return code. Regarding your guesses the second one is the right one, as it had been explained by uplinger from the very beginning of this project. Cheers. Jean. |

I personally like JBoullier's idea and it was something I had thought of suggesting - to see if it was possible in order to lessen the rancor the lack of WUs seems to have caused or rather the "hoovering" of the WUs that have been available.
DDT2 although active is very similar to the Betas in that for at least now WUs will be sparse. Limit it to one WU at a time per core similar to the Beta system now in place. It will still be luck and timing, but it will even the odds for those of us who do not "micro-manage" WCG and for those that set and forget. |

Lee Ann,
----------------------------------------Thank you for your support. ![]() DDT2 although active is very similar to the Betas in that for at least now WUs will be sparse. Yes, and for the type A and B about which I am questioning knreed it is not only "at least now". Their total number for the whole project is only slightly more than a big beta batch, and since they will be distributed in several much smaller batches all over the duration of the project (a few thousands each) each batch is exactly similar to beta batches, including the urgency to get results back. Cheers. Jean. |
