Oh boy, Apple II... had the pleasure of working on an Apple Lisa [way too expensive then to privately own] It had Xerox technology ripped... the inventors of the mouse. That gui+interface was THE change in personal computing, light-years ahead of the rest.

Oh boy, Apple II... had the pleasure of working on an Apple Lisa [way too expensive then to privately own] It had Xerox technology ripped... the inventors of the mouse. That gui+interface was THE change in personal computing, light-years ahead of the rest. I also got to work on a Lisa for a while. You're right - it was a total rip-off of the Xerox Star, which had been demo'ed to us several times (we were near Xerox PARC). The Lisa was loaned to our company with the prospect that we might buy a few hundred. I wrote the technical evaluation which was positive. The finance people were not so happy about it and killed the deal. That turned out to be the right decision.- D |

1982: IBM PC; 8088 @ 4.77 MHz; 64kB RAM ; dual 5 1/4 floppy; no HD; MCA display. I was a hotshot mainframe BAL pgrammer that quickly learned there was a very big difference in the PC assember language.

first one to work on: IBM mini 64k ram (8 approx 16" square cards) "High" speed optical paper tape reader, no video, octal toggle pad to load tape reader, then read in os (basic, fortran 1.0) from paper tape. 8 users on ibm teletype consoles with standard paper tape readers (pin in hole type). ASCII art anyone ;)
first to own: atari 400 w/membrane keyboard, game port, and cassette tape storage. Still have: Apple IIc "Portable" ... this works but not using have carrycase, external 2nd floppy, mouse, "Cricket" sound box..... any offers, needs cga mono monitor..... :D |
