Deserves it's own thread... but it seems either you have not allocated enough space to BOINC or you've not allocated enough space to Linux. There's also that infamous swap file which I found my LLL is barely using, yet taking 3.5GB.
----------------------------------------Edit: Post the start up BOINC message log in that new thread... about 30 lines.

Well, even though I only have Windows machines, I have returned my first result...
----------------------------------------![]() To get the big badges, I have to wait until the windows distribution is out, but if I am lucky, I might have 4 cores for this project, assumed that I am able to install Ubuntu on these 2 machines (especially get Ubuntu working...). ![]() Wish me luck... ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 29, 2010 9:08:22 AM] |

congrats to you, totto73.
Looks like 64-bit Ubuntu in a virtual machine doesn't work for me. Says it can't find app for i686-pc-linux-gnu or something like that. Can't be bothered to play anymore, really, so I'll just run it at night on a real install of 32-bit Ubuntu that I have and wait for the windows version to come out. |

It's probably that one simple line needing adding to the cc_config.xml and a client restart. See FAQ: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28642

Sekerob is right I faced that same problem few weeks ago.
Just add that one line and restart client. |

Now it complains about my network connection missing just a couple of kbit/s. I have an 8 Mbit/s connection, but connecting via wireless and virtualbox... how would I go about making BOINC re-evaluate my connection speed? Or perhaps virtualbox is emulating a slower connection? BOINC measures the download-speed each time you download a file, and averages this in some way together with previous download-speed. If you've not downloaded any work yet, the only your client has downloaded is some small pictures to go alongside the simple view. Since the size of these pictures is very small, the download-overhead is so large that even if you've got a fast connection, the measured download-speed will be very low, often only a couple KB. As an example, even CEP2 isn't available for windows yet you'll still get the 9 CEP2-pictures, and downloading these tiny pictures decreased my average download-speed 10%... To fix, you can exit BOINC-client, edit client_state.xml the <bwdown> (part of <net_stats>, nearly at start of client_state.xml). ![]() "I make so many mistakes. But then just think of all the mistakes I don't make, although I might." |

S/he who does edit the state files runs risk of corrupting it and loose results and or a working client. Just that y'all know what can happen as well.

The second installation gave me a hard time, but now I have 4 cores crunching CEP2 24/7 (for a few weeks).
![]() And now I'm about to install Ubuntu on another dual-core notebook, but this one will not run 24/7 the next days... Who knows, maybe I will become a linux freak within the next weeks... ![]() |

The CPU impact of this on computers is anticipated to be similar to other projects running on World Community Grid because the computer resource requirements for CEP2 are similar to that of FightAIDS@Home and HPF2. However, CEP2 requires a considerable amount of input and output data. The initial download required for this project is around 160MB and each work unit download is around 1MB. The results for a single work unit can be around 50MB, which is about 500 times larger than a typical FightAIDS@Home result. A 756kbps network connection would take approximately 12-15 minutes to download the work unit. At this time, there are no alternative solutions to overcome this issue. With a 756kbps network connection, a 1MB work unit would download in about 11sec, not 12-15min!The project app would would take 32min to download. The 50MB result would take 10min to upload (at 756kbps), perhaps that is what you meant (with some overhead)? Not that this is of any importance, since the only people allowed to participate have a 1Mbps connection or better (6min 30sec with that). So you might want to correct that page. CEP2 is the sixteenth research project to be launched on World Community Grid and one of seven projects currently active. The other six active research projects are: Discover Dengue Drugs โ Together โ Phase 2 (launched February, 2010), Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy โ Phase 2 (launched May, 2009), Help Fight Childhood Cancer (launched March, 2009), Help Conquer Cancer (launched November, 2007), Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2 (launched July, 2006) and FightAIDS@Home Phase 2 (launched November, 2005). For more detailed information and FAQs about each of these projects, please click on the Research button in the upper navigation bar. We thank all of our members for their valuable contributions to the projects to date and hope you will continue to help us process those, as well as this latest project. There is not much point in describing a project as active in one place and Intermittant in another. Thanks, |

Try reading Upload in place of the last Download. 50MB from my calc 101 is in absolute optimum, 549 seconds. The real world might cause it to give 12-15 min. The download is not a concern, which comes from WCG, it's the uploads which for reason go directly to Harvard.
----------------------------------------Where you see intermittent? CEP1 is, CEP2 is full active.
