It's just not fair that you Linux guys are getting a headstart on Windows :-( But good on you guys for crunching in the first place :-() You windows guys should load virtualbox on your windows box. Get a VM of Ubuntu going and start crunching CEP2! It's easy, it's FREE, give it a try! ![]() |

You windows guys should load virtualbox on your windows box. Get a VM of Ubuntu going and start crunching CEP2! It's easy, it's FREE, give it a try! ![]() That's (in principle) what I did. I used VMware workstation dedicated to one core, leaving the second core for the Windows work including BOINC. I used DotschUX for the VM. With the next stats update I will rejoin the Max-Badge-Club. But I'll then shutdown the VM, because it had a bigger impact to my working machine than running BOINC on all cores under windows alone. Now waiting for CEP2 for Windows to further enhance the badge level. |

Got ruby. At this rate I should have emerald in about a month, sapphire in about 3 months.

Finally, I got my badge.
----------------------------------------![]() It was hard, though. I had linux on a memory stick, but all CEP2 WUs ended up in quick errors - heavy load on the disk's access LED. I tried storing BOINC on my Windows disk, but the NTFS process took almost 1/3 of the computing time. So I went through the pain to install Ubuntu on a portable hard disk. Of course, I ended up with a Windows that didn't boot any more. But eventually 64-bit-Ubuntu did the job. And on my memory stick I did a repartitioning exercise, had Knoppix on one partition, and a native ext3 on the other where I put BOINC. That worked as well, no errors, but a lot of idle time waiting for the stick transfers to complete. Now I have my badge, and I will wait for the Windows version before going for the next level in this project. ![]() Regards, Martin ![]() |

Dual boot to the rescue. My sapphire upgrade arrived this morning. That 2 hour timeout to get a 3rd machine (8 more threads) on Linux has turned out to be worth it.

S-I-L-V-E-R an hour ago!!! Turns out that it's not Linux that's giving me troubles, but rather my S-L-O-O-O-O-W connections (the infamous 128 Kbps limit). So for now, sadly, I'll be concentrating on other projects...

Well, I have enough PV'd to make it to ruby, so I'm shutting this off until they get the windows app going... I'll concentrate on HFCC for a while since that has had more WUs added.
Crunch on. :-) |
