Re: The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 technical project details

I am presuming the 2,048 MB Disk Space requirement for Linux is the partition that the BOINC client is installed in?

I currently have 4 partitions:

swap - 2 GB
/ - 35 GB
/usr/local - 20 GB
/home - 18 GB

The /home partition is where I installed BOINC and has plenty of room for the 2 GB disk space requirement.

Now were I get confused is the default device profile for Disk Usage.

Use no more than: ____% of total disk space

If this is set to 10%, then BOINC will only see 10% of my /home partition 18GB? If true, then 1.8 GB is not enough for the 2 GB requirement. So, I'm thinking I have to tweak the % to make it enough for the requirement. I do see there's a "Maximum Output" selection for the profile. Is that something I should use? My Linux box is 100% dedicated to WCG processing.

Thanks in advance.

Re: The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 technical project details

codes,
When BOINC starts it gives you much information about the result of your settings in its message log. Simply have a look there. For example, for my quad:
[---] Data directory: /var/lib/boinc-client
[---] Memory: 1.95 GB physical, 8.00 GB virtual
[---] Disk: 15.75 GB total, 6.84 GB free
[---] General prefs: using separate prefs for school
[---] Reading preferences override file
[---] Preferences limit memory usage when active to 1800.09MB
[---] Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 1800.09MB
[---] Preferences limit disk usage to 9.46GB

Use this info to see if you need to change some settings to be OK for CEP2 requirements.

Also, if this machine is dedicated to WCG why even try to find the workable minimum? Simply set everything (memory, disk...) to 90 % (keep 10 % to feel safe), and forget about it. smile

Re: The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 technical project details

The 10% was already set by the default, I hadn't changed any settings since running WCG as far as I know.

In the past few hours I answered my own question, just as you suggested to check the messages. Earlier today before work I changed the 10% to 15%. When I came home from work I noticed I received a CEP wu. The extra 5% made the difference.

Re: The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 technical project details

There are various disk use controls, the default being 10GB, all others captured in this FAQ: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=17033#177091.

In practice BOINC/WCG never uses that. Look in the Disk tab of the BOINC client where you can see 2 pies, one overall, and one per project. I've got 1 DDDT2 Type A, 2 CEP2 and 1 HCMD2 running concurrently with a 0.9 day cache and WCG is using 1.54GB presently, BOINC overall 1.61GB. In the left pie you can see this overall use, but also how much is left for BOINC and what's not available. As suggested by Jean, the defaults are good to go, the tweakers who've not done the obligatory RTFM the ones having the most problems.

Glad it's solved, this case, ands happy crunching.

Can't quite unstand why I'm getting this. The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 requires 128.00 kbps download bandwidth. Your computer has been measured at 69.60 kbps. I'm located in Blenheim New Zealand. Heres my speed test result
I've read Sekerob post re this issue do I need to drain my cache I have 40 tasks in queue or is my bb connection just to slow?

Fear we have to be more than patient. The last beta was cut short. Programmers are working on the identified problems and as understood a new test is being scheduled, but have no date.

I thought that over 7000 results were returned like 2 days ago. I thought by now more that 9000 have been processed. How was it 'cut short' if almost all have been returned by now? Was it 20K WU planned but onlt 10K sent?
