Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

We hope you all have as glorious a sunshine as we have in Cambridge these days. A great opportunity to go out and about and let the computers crunch away . Have a super weekend.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Dear mortsnorkle,
if you search the forum you'll find a detailed answer to this question. In short: Yes, there is a formal goal and we are about 75% through. But in reality, this goal is soft and as long as we produce interesting date and as long as IBM is happy with us we keep going.
Best wishes,
Your Harvard CEP team

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

We had our monthly phone conference with the IBM WCG team today. All systems go and we keep crunching on :).

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Harvard Research Computing is commissioning a big new cluster this weekend which will require a service downtime for most of their system. It looks like the CEP infrastructure will not be affected but we still wanted to give you a heads-up. If you observe unusual upload behavior please let us know so that we can look into it.
Best wishes
Your Harvard CEP team

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

We seem to have survived the big maintenance outage of the Harvard Research Computing facilities without too much trouble. We nearly ran out of space on Ms Piggy because we couldn’t log into it to run the archiving code, but the system opened up just in time again so that we could take care of it. Otherwise it was smooth sailing on our end – awesome job by the Harvard Research Computing team. These guys are just great!

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

We have been tinkering with this for quite a while, but now that we have over half a petabyte of data, Laszlo has taken charge of overhauling our data backup system and he will also add another level of redundancy. Quite a challenge, we can tell you that.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Just wanted to let you know that the 2nd scheduled maintenance downtime – this one was for work on the power supply of the chemistry department – went smoothly the other day and all systems on our end are purring nicely.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Marcus from Kitware is gonna be in town next Friday and we will have a day-long planning session (and maybe a bit of a hackathon) with him in order to intensify our collaboration.
