Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Alexandre Tkatchenko from the Fritz Haber Institute in Berlin is visiting us today. He is the leader of the ERC group on Organic Functional Materials and Molecular Interactions and we had a very interesting discussion about issues related to the Clean Energy Project, in particular about van der Waals effects in molecular solids and the use of machine learning to survey the chemical space. He also gave a talk as part of the Joint Quantum Sciences Seminar series titled “Collective van der Waals Interactions and their Relevance in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics”. Good stuff :).

Turns out that Alex is actually staying for an extra day. Great! More time to talk science :).

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Hmm, the CEP team resembles a hospital wing these days. Sniffling, coughing, and walking on crutches...

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

The old cleanenergy.harvard.edu URL (which many people still use) had been unavailable for a little while. There were some problems with the virtual machine that runs it, but our friends at Harvard Research Computing fixed it.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

After an overhaul in the grid result processing scheme, we could take a good bit of load off of Ms Piggy, which had been close to capacity for a while. Now it’s purring (or rather oinking) away smoothly again.

Nearly forgot to mention: Our friends from Kitware are in town again. We are always happy to welcome these guys in the Aspuru-Guzik Group.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

We shared our CEPDB master SQL with a new collaborator in the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences the other day. These guys are experts in machine learning and will try to augment our materials informatics efforts.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

We had a very productive planning meeting yesterday for our experimental data upload portal. Getting there :). We also discussed how to finally deploy Laszlo’s day-to-day statistics overview on the project webpage.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

The next molecular library is in the making and will hopefully soon hit the grid.
