CEP2 has passed 4,500 years of computing time on the World Community Grid – all made possible by the WCG crunchers! A big THANK YOU to all of you! https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewProject.do?projectShortName=cep2 You're welcome! And that's great news on the validation front! |

We have started ordering parts for jabba2. This time we go for a prebuilt box so that we can focus more on the science rather than on putting together hardware (after all we have shown that we can do it already

The new box will have a capacity of 135TB! Wow! How long will it take for us crunchers to fill the extra capacity? ![]() |

Building large storage pods with a low price tag seems to be of some interest - here is another article on the Backblaze design (and we are mentioned

Dear Sander1974,
we'll retool jabba1 and together with jabba2 we'll have a total of 270TB. In the future the redundant backups will furthermore be on a different system. It is hard to say how long that'll last, in particular since we increase our efficiency without wingman copies and will more intensively use cluster resources. But the new hardware should bring us well into 2012. Best wishes Your Harvard CEP team |

They made a comment about, "As an individual, I doubt one would ever need that amount of storage"
Funny, I seem to remember a similar type comment made a little ways back about 640k. I do remember about ten years ago being told, what the heck do you need a gigabyte of hard drive for? With HD now, and got only knows what they will get us into in the future, I believe we will figure out a reason to need that much storage. Who knows, full submersive, interactive 360 3D would be nice heh. Aaron |
