Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

Just found out one of my borged machines upgraded from an onboard AMD GPU to an nVidia 9500GT. Too bad it doesn't have the compute capability necessary here. (going by nVidia's website anyways...)

Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

Here are my GPUs, now crunching away on POEM tasks as I await HCC GPU (and maybe other project) tasks.

#1 AMD 1090T X6 @ 3.9 GHz, ATI HD 6790;#2 AMD 1090T X6 @ 4.0 GHz HD 6570- both Win7 64 bit Ultimate

smile
I just bought an AMD HD 7770 and needed something to test it with, so tried POEM too. It is doing very well, and uses so little power (only a couple of watts on my Kill-A-Watt) that I thought it was not working at first. But it is returning a lot of points with the 12.4 drivers, though OpenCL does not install properly with the 12.6 drivers (Win7 64-bit also).

And I was able to play around with the cc_config.xml file in order to get BOINC to run only the AMD card rather than my GT 430, since the Nvidia card takes twice the time (and 2.5 times as much CPU power on an E8400 at 3.0 GHz) to finish a work unit. Also, I used the app_info.xml file to allow two work units to run at once, though it takes more CPU power of course. So it was a worthwhile shakedown cruise, and I recommend it for someone waiting around to run HCC1.

Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

I have a Q9550 @ 3.5Ghz and want to put in a new GPU to crunch with. I have a 650W PSU in the box; what would a good starter card be for this system? The GT 8400 currently in the box will go in another box with an older card. I was considering 2 different versions of the GT 570. I haven't used GPU crunching much and I want to get int it; all suggestions and help welcome.

Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

~ $400.00 to start. smile But I got 3-4 responses on other forums at other BOINC sites meanwile and I just ordered a EVGA GTX-570, 320 bit, 2560Mb memory, 480 CUDA cores; $310.00.
Runs on a 550W PSU so I should be good to go with my 650W, once I figure out how to manipulate the proper files to manage the processing and run 2 units at a time.
Any news here on when WCG will have GPU work available?

I have another nVidia GT430 on its way. $27 after MIR, tax, and shipping. I think I will keep replacing my 8400/210's out with these as these deals continue to pop up.

Keep your eyes on the beta forum for GPU announcements. It's still in beta. As for running 2 tasks at once, haven't heard whether or not that will work here. My best guess would be is that since this app is coded in OpenCl you could run 2 at a time with a properly configured app_info file BUT from what I've seen my GPU runs at 93% running 1 task so IMHO there would be little if anything to gain from trying to run 2 for me. Might be feasible on the newer high end cards. confused

Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

Interested if anyone has an opinion of GTX 670's vs GTX 580's. My builder wants me to "upgrade" (at their expense) from GTX 580's with sealed liquid cooling to GTX 670's with air cooling.

Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

If they go AMD, I MIGHT, BIG MIGHT consider bringing over my Radeon 7850, but something tells me that this might favor Nvidia.

Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

I got a new laptop a month ago and it has an NVIDIA GT 650M which so far had been getting valid results, so I will definitely be crunching with this card. I'm currently dedicating it to Primegrid until WCG has tasks available for GPU.
