Re: New challenge : ""our Xmas Gift - Ending c4cw""

yes i hope they are back up and running soon as well.

unfortunately bad things happen now and then and projects temporarily stop.

no one expected this pause in the project to last anywhere as long as it has. The good news is NO data was lost.

yes there is some new project coming up soon but we wont know what it is till its hear and we wont know when it will be here till its hear.

i am sure each day gets more frustrating for you... I know it was expected to be back early November and now its December...

..........
on a semi off topic note....

curious if water purification types like this could help clear up some of the nuclear problem with the Fukushima Daiichi plants.
..........
remember its not what things were designed for its how things can help us.

remember if it was not for some people may remember the failed drug Sildenafil that was a complete failure for what it was designed for and now is called Viagra and used for a completely new use... and now it also looks like the active ingredient in Viagra may also help against skin cancer.

see Geokamayoc there is some scholars doing work out there and not just technicians they found a drug didn't work for one thing and now is working for Erectile dysfunction and soon may be a treatment for skin cancer... there is intuition out there...
..........

again I hope the project is back up soon

Dear Nasher,
No each day is not frustrating….. I hope to get my HFCC bronze badge in late December or early January. After, still without C4CW, it will be frustrating for me ;-)
The nuclear problem with the Fukushima Daiichi plants is more complex than water purification and need VERY INVENTIVE MINDS to create new protocols for everything !!!!! and people with huge hearts to give their life working in the plants…… it’s during this kind of problems we see the quality of scientists. A person able to break all his past knowledge to invente another way to think is a true scientist.
I did not know the Viagra molecule was useful against skin cancer…… interesting, !!!
Don’t forget the Medical industries want to make money !!!!! and the scientific methodology is rarely related with the business law.

Re: New challenge : ""our Xmas Gift - Ending c4cw""

yes I actually understand a lot about the issues with Fukushima Daiichi plants as I have worked in the navy as a nuclear power machinist mate (retired dec 1 2011)

also as a thyroid cancer survivor 1 year 6 months 23 days I understand alot of the other complex issues. and with some of the reported results of radioactive iodine levels near Fukushima I have read about in the news I am afraid that there will be many thyroid cancer cases from the exposure to the people who live near there.

Yes I agree that medical industry makes a lot of money and that's there job... but it still takes intuition for people to figure out what is already out there can do for other issues.

I am not a true scientist, but I am a dabbler... and i look for ways for myself to help both my pocketbook and the environment at the same time.

remember just cause something is out there dose not mean people will use it... I have replaced all my lights with florescent bulbs years ago and am now experimenting with a mix of LED bulbs. long ways till they develop ones to fully replace florescent bulbs but they show signs of improvement.

there are discoveries every day that may lead for a cure for any disease but unfortunately it will still take years before they get fully tested... same goes with ways to produce clean water.

I have seen plans for a small semi portable structure to use solar power to pump and store ground water for 3rd world countries that can be added to a small settlement for less than $1000 each. of corse that only works where the ground water is unpolluted.

in Singapore they have major issues with eater but are defiantly using what is out there to get clean water

Re: New challenge : ""our Xmas Gift - Ending c4cw""

Nasher, THANKS A LOT FOR THE LINKS....... that's truly interesting !!!!!

I am also a thyroidal cancer survivor for 10 years.... I am above the knee amputee because of another cancer in 2001 .... Without an effective treatment in chinese medecine , I am sure I could continue to get other cancers.... and die !!!

Science has limits!!!! and a good scientist has a KEY QUALITY : He is not sure !and he will take the responsability!!!

Science is only a simple way to explain the REAL !!!! Rationality can explain many things but can't explain others... Can you say others don't exist ???

Don't overrated science !!!! We did a great job here !!!! but science is very limited !! NOT THE HUMAN MIND !!!!
As geographer and emergency manager/CBRN first responder, I follow very carefully the situation in Japan since March..... many things make me crazy but i admire others !!!! I think at least 100 km around the plant will /should be give up in the future ..... and i am worried about the food in all japan

Nasher!!!
Congrats on your retirement!!!
I got out (took my 60 percent)
wish I could have done 20 and got concurrent receipt.
Didn't know such thing existed, ANYWAY,
we survived is the important thing.
Back on topic, I'm just checking up to see if water available.
Still trying for 5 year water (at 4) waiting, checking...

Re: New challenge : ""our Xmas Gift - Ending c4cw""

many members here consider C4CW as an ecological project, but from my part, it's the MAIN health project !!! Clean water is the BASIC need!!!

With more than 10 billions human beings on earth in 2050, it's truly important to get many purification tools.

Re: New challenge : ""our Xmas Gift - Ending c4cw""

In every country I have visited, lack of clean water is an obvious problem when you turn on the water tap and brown water comes out, from stains in the washbasin, and health news reports.
I do not think of water purification as an environmental or health project, but rather a better way of living project. I like seeing clean water come out of the tap; I prefer to drink clean water; as a host, I prefer to serve clean water; I do not like seeing people get sick from contaminated water.
