1,192,328 WTG RT  Due to your excellent advice and patience nanoprobe. Thank You sir. This new GPU beta they're running is going to screw things up for people using an app_info file. If your WCG profile for your GPU cruncher is set to receive betas and you're using the app-info you'll stop getting the non beta tasks. Check your event log to see if you've been sent beta tasks that have been discarded. To get the non beta tasks flowing again you have to set your GPU cruncher WCG profile to receive no betas. After checking that set boinc to receive no new tasks and finish whatever tasks you have in cache. When the tasks are done shut down boinc. Go to where the app_info is located and rename it app_info.txt but leave it in the folder. Restart boinc. It will retrieve the last 2 betas that were discarded and some new non beta tasks. Suspend the non beta tasks and let boinc finish and upload the betas. When that's done, shut down boinc. Go back to the folder with the app_info file and change the extension from .txt back to .xml Restart boinc and all should be well again. One thing I've learned about the betas is that, usually, by the time you know about one, they're all sent out and gone. As I understand it, all that this "babysitting" will do is get you any betas that you were sent that got discarded because of the app_info file unless you catch this as it happens, to a large degree. If you don't do this, any discarded betas will get resent out in due time. From reading other threads, isn't the real problem that the server is sending you betas when they don't match what's in your app_info file? |

looks like i snagged a few beta work units.. Dr. Mike Yep, got six here. Ran for right around three hours each. All in PV. Another 3/4ths of a day closer to silver (eventually). my second computer seems to be up and running.. 8 threads, albeit slower than my newest computer.. Dr. Mike Good to hear. We'll see what it does for your points real soon..... Oops, right. Most of the work on a new machine goes into PV at first. Still, you're numbers are only going to go up. I just gotta be patient. |

Has anyone heard anything about what the next sub-project will be? I understand WCG is a project (correct?). I think it depends on who you are talking to and their perspective. If they are a WCG person (like I am), then HCC and the others are projects. Gerald, who does work at other Distributed Computing groups, might think of WCG as a project and HCC as a subproject. I can see where that makes sense to folks that work with multiple organizations. So... I don't think there is a solid answer to your question. Have a GREAT day! Yep, I think technically, in the DC world, WCG is a project with multiple sciences or applications. I believe WCG was the first project to have multiple applications. When they started the second one way back when, they called it a new project and it's been that way ever since. No way that's going to get changed now.  Hmm...I wonder what Yoyo calls theirs?EDIT: Yoyo calls them sub-projects. Figures. ...Hey Keith. At this point in the year you are normally beginning some speculation on our point total for the year. Do you have an expectation?... Well, I think it's safe to say we'll do more than last year. Taking what we've done through October, dividing by ten and adding double that to the through October number will give you a conservative estimate. That doesn't fully take the GPU impact into account though and that's still working itself out. One question that I don't think has been answered anywhere is how long the HCC GPU will last. At the rate that's going through WUs, I can't imagine that it won't shorten the life of the project. Still, is HCC more like FAAH and HPF2 or like the other projects? |

I guess those betas had to download some addtional files and our .xml was not letting that happen??? Correct. The current app_info doesn't have the coreect info to "see" the betas because they're a different version and the app_info file doesn't update automatically. It has to been done manually. Kevin said the new version should go live next week so the app_info file will have to be updated manually to the new version. Until then just keep firing away on the current version. BTW RT, did you get the driver problem solved?

My second computer is going fairly well. I would like to change the graphics card (which according to messages, is not compatible with GPU here) in my second computer.
