You would think the power goes to the state first, then sell off excess to other states. It's a joke though. Power grid is so unsecure meshing them under one control. BTW, you still using a ssd for page file? My 30gb is just about maxed out. Starting to wonder if trim isn't working properly under win7 64. You would think so on the power issue but thats logical and I have yet to find a logical politician or high up Govt official. Yes, WCG is all on one Crucial M4 128 gig SSD and behaving beautifully to the tune that I just grabbed another from the EGG. Couldn't resist for $79.99 with free shipping.. Back to power efficiency, had a little discussion with the friend tonight who just watched a demo of a pair of 15 core IB xeons that were unlocked multi's.. I could tell you the speed but 1) you wouldn't beleive me and 2) he'd kill me if I opened my big mouth any more.. All I'll say is this, my dualie E5-2687W is a wimpy, whiny little girl( Arrrrrrrrrnold accent) compared to that IB duaie at OMG speed. and yes, I am on the hunt for a pair. Got a bios here in the SM machine that will support them. ![]() OOH, I have to brag a little, made it to number 25 in the stats for today..I think thats the highest I've gotten since I started.. We're finally entering fall here in New England and today I found out an interesting fact.. Temps outside dropped to 40F overnight and I haven't turned on the house heating yet BUT when I got up today the house was at 79F.. Yea, the dualie E5-2687W kept the whole house warm overnight while running WCG and drawing 350W.. Now this is a 26x48ft split and granted some thermals in the walls as it was close to 78F yesterday but this really surprised me. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Movieman at Sep 21, 2012 5:22:42 PM] |

Now this has nothing to do with WCG or cpu's but sometimes you see something that you just have to share. Have you ever heard the old story of the "Ugly Duckling?" Take a few minutes and watch this with the best speakers you can find. I will tell you that this brought tears to my eyes. http://biertijd.com/mediaplayer/?itemid=33967 ![]() |

15 core IB, hmm. If this thing supports HT that would be 30 simultaneous work units. That would make me swap out my oldest system...

Basically I never retire systems until there is simply no hope. Last one to go was a P-III laptop that had to be hooked to an external monitor to see. The laptops have been acquired for school, work needs, etc and eventually upgraded. Desktops (all running Linux) are mostly my personal fun systems; oldest one is an Alienware (from when they were still the best) and probably now the next in line to be unrepairable. It becomes harder to justify keeping around a single core system when I can throw in a cheap 6 or 8 thread board and re-use the case. Today I just finalized an AMD X2-64 that I picked up on clearance from e-bay. If it's cheap and I'm in the mood, it becomes a cruncher. KWSN - A Shrubbery where in the US do you live? Pacific NW, in fact you can't get much more NW without getting wet. Sorry to hear that, I am just South of Wash, DC so shipping would not be cheap! I have over half a dozen dual core boxes that I was going to drop ship you, but not at $50 or more each! They are BIGGER than the USPS flat rate boxes, obviously!! Oh well! ![]() ![]() |
