Hello coolstream, The HCC programs (CPU and GPU) run off the same supply of work units. So both HCC programs run out of work at the same time. Oh well. I have reported this upstairs. Merry Christmas! Lawrence Merry Christmas to you too, Lawrence and a big thank you to the elves who have been working hard to get the HCC machine back up and running. ![]() The reason I mentioned that both types of WU were not available was to quell any panic that HCC GPU had suddenly ended. I'm surprised and glad that things appear to be returning to normal now ![]() ![]() Crunching in memory of my Mum PEGGY, cousin ROPPA and Aunt AUDREY. |

Nano, is that window screen material? It's window AC unit filter material. I use the prickly side from a roll of velcro tape to hold it in place. Place it around the edges of your case and attach the filter material. Trim to fit. You can buy the filters at any Lowes, HD, local hardware store, whatever. They look like sponge material and are usually about 1/4 inch thick. If the side of your case is bigger than 1 filter just overlap the edges of 2 by about 1/2 inch and glue them together. It ain't pretty but it keeps 99% of the dust out. I use it on every other opening that can pull air into the case too, not just the open side. I'll post a pic later of the machine sitting next to me. Should be worth a chuckle. ![]()

The Heath Robinson in me is mighty happy with that filter nano
----------------------------------------![]() If you use steel cases, you could perhaps try to find a source of old refrigerators ... remove the door seal and from that remove the strip magnets.... Just an alternate thought to the velcro solution ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by OldChap at Dec 24, 2012 5:53:16 PM] |

None...if you don't use hard drives. ![]() Or floppy disks :P Yes, I still use them every now and then with older embedded equipment that only uses the 3.5" floppy as a storage medium. A USB upgrade is possible, but it's not really worth it when I have a stockpile of a couple hundred floppies. I also occasionally use them when doing things with really old Macs (Classic, SE, etc). ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by noderaser at Dec 25, 2012 12:41:26 AM] |

Not to get off on too much of a tangent, but I'm not sure how much of a risk magnets are to an HDD. I think the housing would probably do a good job of interfering with the field lines unless maybe you had a nice sized neodymium/rare earth magnet. Even then I don't know. Something . . . coercivity of the magnetic medium . . . something, something.

Hey Nanoprobe, have you seen any significant difference in the CPU and GPU temps with the filter material covering the opening as opposed to open air?

Hey Nanoprobe, have you seen any significant difference in the CPU and GPU temps with the filter material covering the opening as opposed to open air? No difference. Of course that may not be the same for every scenario because there are too many variables but the 2 I have running that way saw no temp increase at all. YMMV
