Re: Lots of Inconclusive Results

I found something interesting that may tell if your task that is listed as pending verification will be valid or invalid. I checked about 20 of my valid tasks that were resends where one of the other results had been declared invalid. In every case I found the following. If my result log looked like this:

Result Log

Result Name: MCM1_ 0000153_ 3769_ 3--
<core_client_version>7.0.55</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<stderr_txt>
Commandline = projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org/wcgrid_mcm1_7.26_windows_x86_64 -SettingsFile MCM1_0000153_3769.txt -DatabaseFile dataset-17_72_SDG_v1.txt
Initializing
wcg_learn_limit = 500000
Running
Result.out = 1160092.000000
Run complete, CPU time: 7951.480171
15:22:04 (4028): called boinc_finish

</stderr_txt>
]]>

It was valid.

If the result log looked like this or in any way had more log entries then a valid one it was invalid:

Result Log

Result Name: MCM1_ 0000153_ 3769_ 2--
<core_client_version>6.10.58</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<stderr_txt>
Commandline = projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org/wcgrid_mcm1_7.26_windows_x86_64 -SettingsFile MCM1_0000153_3769.txt -DatabaseFile dataset-17_72_SDG_v1.txt
Initializing
wcg_learn_limit = 500000
Running
Commandline = projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org/wcgrid_mcm1_7.26_windows_x86_64 -SettingsFile MCM1_0000153_3769.txt -DatabaseFile dataset-17_72_SDG_v1.txt
Initializing
wcg_learn_limit = 500000
Running
Result.out = 1159925.000000
Run complete, CPU time: 8060.400042
12:26:35 (15172): called boinc_finish

</stderr_txt>
]]>

Don't know if this is true in every case but the 20 of mine that I looked at all had the same results. YMMV

PS. All 3 of my invalid tasks had the larger result logs.

Re: Lots of Inconclusive Results

Looks like it might be a bigger issue with those of you running AMD CPUs then those running Intel.

Mine are all Intel..............

Re: Lots of Inconclusive Results

I have 2 invalids where I have restarts and the valid pair do not and a Pver I suspect will be similar.
In each case there is slight difference in the Result.out value.
First PC is AMD Windows and 2nd is Intel Linux.

Re: Lots of Inconclusive Results

Mine are all intel except 1 AMD. I have experienced the invalids on both and on both Linux and Windows.
Cheers

Re: Lots of Inconclusive Results

PMH_UK notes the difference in Result.out values between good and bad results. I have plenty of good results where mine have restarted several times but the wingman didn't, but they have always matched the Result.out value. It is that difference which indicates the problem, not the restarts.

Re: Lots of Inconclusive Results

I'll put my hand up and say me to!

I've had five invalids so far on two rigs that don't make errors on any other projects, the rigs are not O.C.ed & I don't run gpu projects on them just to count that out.

One rig is an AMD x6 1055t running Ubuntu 10.04lts x64 / Boinc 5.10.58 - x64.

The other is a i7 2700k running Ubuntu 12.04lts x32 / Boinc 7.0.27 x32.

I'd be willing to just run betas only if the techs want to find out what is causing these invalids to pop up now with this project.

I did get some betas and didn't have any problems.

Re: Lots of Inconclusive Results

While I don't have any Invailds (yet). I've done a random sampling of my pending's.

It seems that all those with restarts are running 6.10.58.
Maybe this has something to do with the version of Boinc and the WU's??

Re: Lots of Inconclusive Results

As of tonight's update I have 8 invalids for a total of 38+ hours. All of the invalids involve work units that were stopped then restarted when BOINC was manually closed/opened or during a machine reboot.

I did not see any invalids during BETA, but there were fewer work units tested there of course.

This app simply does not handle a stop/restart very well at all.
