Re: Computing for Good being phased out

We knew there would be an end to this, as there has been with other giveaways.

It was a great concept and a worthwhile addition to the research done here.

Although there have been lots of problems associated with payouts and fluctuating currency values, I would call it a success overall, and hopefully an initial model for future incentive crunching.

Its nice to hear that they will honor the lost days of payouts that many members, including me, have experienced.

Though different views have been expressed about this program, I think we all appreciate their willingness to help a great cause. Thanks, Ripple Labs!

Re: Computing for Good being phased out

It couldn't go on forever, and the hacking must surely have had something to do with this.perhaps the new site incompatibility was a sly way of wcg pushing ripple labs away from continued association.

oh well, easy come, easy go

Re: Computing for Good being phased out

Personally I have mixed feelings.

1. Those existing members who joined to benefit from earnings to offset their costs, good luck to them biggrin

2. Those new members who started and will stay because it is a worthwhile task, welcome biggrin

3. Those who came, reaped monetary rewards, then deserted......... thinking shame on you

Re: Computing for Good being phased out

Quoted from elsewhere
If the website changes broke our point calculation system this suggests to me that they were screen scrapping. If so, then they missed/ignored knreed's warning some months ago that this would happen.

I use the WCG API (in XML format) daily and have never known it to fail in at least the 6 months that Ripple has been in existence,

Re: Computing for Good being phased out

The Ripple contribution to WCG output
                    	RunTime	Points	Results
Since Ripple creation 40.97% 38.00% 35.61%

Last 28 days 51.32% 47.63% 48.68%

For completeness the Ripple contribution to WCG's AllTime output is currently:
	RunTime	Points	Results
4.27% 5.13% 4.24%

I'll be looking to report the stats on this aspect in the weeks to come, as CfG winds down and then ceases.

Re: Computing for Good being phased out

My whole concern is the loss of science being done. I do not care why it was being done. I want to see better treatments for AIDS and Cancer and the contribution to runtime Ripple Labs brought was huge.

This IS a loss for science and I feel bad about it.
