Coleslaw wrote: I wish people would stop making promises and assurances they have no control over. People got angry when DDDT2 was released. We were all assured there would be plenty of work for all and to essentially stop complaining. Have all of you forgotten what happened? That is right. The project ended abruptly. I understand why it did. But the point is that you shouldn't be making promises you can't deliver. There is no guarantee we will see anything until we see it. I agree that the PR people goofed big time. I have heard many people outside these forums complain about the lack of work after being lured here. I too have been annoyed by having multiple emails, tweets, Facebook posts all telling me that I can use my tablet/phone help with Ebola research. I will not recommend anyone to come here to help with the Ebola work until there is enough to go around. I will hype up the other causes. My $.02 on the PR blitz is that it is perfect timing to ride on the fear of the masses caused by all the media outlets creating "outbreak" scare tactics in places that aren't even close to an outbreak. Very little is needed to convince people to take some kind of action when they are scared. But for those that take the steps to get BOINC setup and then get their preferences at WCG set just right (no this is not a simple task for most even with the multiple posts saying how easy it is) this is a huge let down. Please stop trying to justify that there is other work to do. Not everyone cares. There are a lot of motivations to choose the science we do. I'm not crunching just because someone else has work. I crunch the projects that I want to crunch. That doesn't make my anger any less valid. If I came here for an attempt to help find cures for ebola, I would be insulted by your suggestions to just crunch something else. Something else didn't lure me here in this case. Again, just my $.02. There is a saying in my country: "Nobody can delivers what I can promise to you". Otherwise, I fully agree with you and I am taking your 2 cents ![]() Cheers ![]() ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Shrubbing@Home since January 5 2006 ![]() |

Best Wishes to all for a Happy Christmas and a Healthy New Year
I would just like to remind people that there is plenty of work for Mapping Cancer Markers and FightAids@home. More people are ill and may die from these two than from Ebola so PLEASE don’t complain about a shortage of work on Ebola until you have a diamond badge in the other two projects. Also there are another two projects that we would like you to have sapphire badges for, before any complaint. If you are still short of Ebola work then please read the previous 9 pages of this thread. The answer of how to get more work has been answered at least 10 times (and no I did not bother to count) so there is no need to ask again. Rant over and please keep WCG in your projects, I’m sure there will be plenty of tasks to go around in the New Year. |

I'm trying like heck to get a badge on the board for this project. I got dudded with the African Climate project as, while I was happy to accommodate the large uploads and my connection was usually just within the requirements, the project locked me out after one work unit. I'm not going to happily let that happen again. Even the nurse-maiding described several times in this thread does not keep me in work and running it in conjunction with another project nets me zero for this one.
----------------------------------------I do understand there just aren't large quantities of work units available but that doesn't make it any less frustrating. ![]() Currently being moderated under false pretences |

For the past few days the tasks seem to be flowing in. They are mostly variations of 000252. I had 16 this morning (UK time)

UBT - JohnR, you are quite correct in pointing out the other projects which together probably kill more people each day than Ebola has killed in several years.
I guess some folks just like to grump about things. I have my sapphire on FAAH, and should have my sapphire with MCM1 by March 2015. Since there are only two family laptops in my group, crunching for a 5 year badge would be about as easy and taking a Mars mission for me, so I'll just work on my smaller badges with those WUs that are available. My goal this upcoming week for OET is the get the final 5 days worth of WUs needed to get my bronze badge. I figure if I'm patient, I should be able to get another round or two of new WUs into the system before New Years Eve to make my small but humble goal for YE 2014. In the meantime, hope everyone had a great Christmas, and will soon have a wonderful New Year! ![]() |

Glad the issue is that we are grabbing them as fast as they come out, was worried since I had only done two that there was something wrong with the server. Will happily chug along with the cancer, AIDS, and Solar, and snag Ebola and the other one whenever I happen to be lucky and be asking for more when they are available.

There is no reason to limit yourself to WCG for that matter. GPUGrid is now beta-testing CPU work units. The interesting part is that they use AVX, in case you have Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge or Haswell, or one of the recent AMD chips. You can add that as a BOINC project while waiting for the OET work to come along.

Assume for now that this is just a lull during the holidays and that things pick up a bit again after New Years Day... I picked up several OET workunits around 1:00 GMT so I doubt there's a holiday lull. Keep trying for them! |
