angry Re: ! no tasks available !

Why are members so upset because of the small number of available tasks?

Yves,
Your question is far from stupid. There seems to be several reasons for unrest amongst the natives. The one and only reason I was upset is the people who gathered, to join in the battle, were enticed here, by me, to fight Ebola. Then after a day or so of work units, the devices ran dry and I was left with a red face. They joined because of Ebola and left for lack thereof. I have placed a band aid on my "ego" and will do some fancy talking, if and when more work is available.
They all know about other projects, so don't need a friendly reminder.

Re: ! no tasks available !

NAP2614 - Thank you for your explanation. If I get one work unit a day among my four computers, I consider myself to be very lucky. We really want a large amount of WUs to be made available so we can contribute.

Re: ! no tasks available !

IMO what is upsetting is not so much the shortage of workunits for OET afterall uplinger made it clear from the start:
Please note, this project is going to be running slower than our normal applications. So there will be periods during the day that no work can be downloaded for the application.

and then there was a problem with checkpointing mid job about which uplinger said
once we get checkpointing mid job working, then we will speed it up.

What is upsetting is that since that post (Dec 8) there has been no tech posts on this, or any other matter.

Re: ! no tasks available !

Keeping things in perspective:

There is plenty of work to be done and while I am disappointed that there are no Ebola work units to be run, there are still tons of work to run.

In the overall scheme of things, this is but a minor bump. Not like you have Ebola, or Cancer or so many of the other things that could be wrong with you; (Cancer survivor here). So be happy you are alive and are able to afford the resources to contribute to the great causes here..further that you are generous enough to do so.

Merry Christmas Everyone! smile

"There is plenty of work to be done..."
A very true statement wink
"...while I am disappointed that there are no Ebola work units to be run..."
Minor correction: Ebola WUs are available (I have just received 17)... maybe a more accurate statement should be "... there are not enough Ebola work units available for my liking..." biggrin

and yes, A Very Merry Christmas to all the crunchers !!!

Merry Christmas to all. I look forward to crunching more Ebola tasks next year as well as getting to my five year badge for MCM.

Re: ! no tasks available !

oh no i am not worried that i didnt get enough of those work units yet...

right now some of the heavy hitters are probably grabbing most of the work units i still have a bit to go on genome till i reach the minimum badge i am going for and i concentrate more to get this badge.

yes i would like the badge but i am not going to move the world if i cant get enough in one time.

Re: ! no tasks available !

Ebola WUs are only available in spouts (every couple of hours based on my "results" page) and they are only a very limit amount. I only get enough WUs to run for 15-20% of the time
