Don't know what happened, but my devices have enough wu available now. 19 cores busy on oet.
----------------------------------------What's interesting is the fact that my slow amd kabini cpus running on 2 Ghz are very close to my i7-3930 running on 3.5 Ghz. The difference in clockspeed is compensated by the os. The amds running on linux and the i7 on windows. Ok, the amds using ssd for boinc and i7 a harddrive. ![]() |

Hmm, I selected OET only and increased the cache to 2 days and got 16 tasks!

Maybe things are changing... it used to be that I was getting the OET WUs only once a day at a certain time (this went on for about 3 days). Since yesterday I have received groups of WUs (9-10) at different hours of the day. So far I have 27 WUs in the queue and 15 in PV jail.

In the result status I can see that the wu were sent on different times a day.
----------------------------------------Right now I have 91 in PV jail. ![]() |

Since I started with babysitting, I am getting them twice a day - after midnight and in early afternoon UTC. Cheers ![]() ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. The time when I selected OET only, I ran out of work on my laptop. I have since had OET and UGM selected but I am only getting the UGM WUs. Excuse me, I just checked and I did get one OET today on one machine but that is not enough to keep all busy...

Sandvika wrote: Hi Sandvika, If you have BOINC manager in Simple view, change it to Advanced. Click Tools / Computing preferences in the menu (or something similar to this, I am translating it from the BOINC Slovak language mutation). In tab "Network Usage" you can find "Minimal work reserve" (or similar ![]() ![]() The same applies to MAC OS X BOINC manager (version 7.4.x). Cheers and ![]() Hi Branjo, thanks for your tip. In the mean time I looked in my event log and noticed that whilst BOINC is running jobs it keeps on looking for more work regularly. On the other hand, as soon as it finds no work to do, it lengthens the polling interval each time that it can't find work and it quickly escalates to be hours. Consequently, in those brief periods when OET WUs become available, it is sleeping instead of looking for work! (Projects->Properties: Scheduling: CPU work fetch values) Clicking Projects->Update resets the polling interval, starting at 2 minutes. I started Googling and quickly found a discussion of the BOINC V6 vs V7 scheduler, which led me to editing the global_prefs_override config file and reloading it (Advanced->Read local prefs file). Then I found your tip and discovered the values I'd set in the config file had been populated into the "network usage" preferences you mentioned ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'll see how self-sustaining it becomes once it actually has OET work to do with the new settings. Ideally I don't want to oversubscribe the cores on my PC, so if I can keep it topped up to at least 2 days with either OET or UGM, I can change the device profile in use to get UGM once a day if it is running short and leave it on OET the rest of the time. Cheers and ![]() It is historical relict - in the old(er) versions of BOINC it was even more confusing to figure out what-the-poet-wanted-to-say and was hidden behind "Connect to network about every XY days". That is why it is in Network Tab ![]() ![]() ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Shrubbing@Home since January 5 2006 ![]() |

Hi Dave, If you follow my advice from this thread (of course, if you have a time and a mood for doing it), you will soon hit (at least) Brown badge w/o finding your rigs idle ![]() Cheers and ![]() ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Happy days. I've still got a queue of UGM on one device but I've got 7.5 days of OET WUs in "Valid" state from today and with queues of OET on the other devices seemingly sustaining themselves without needing UGM adding to keep them busy, the OET project no longer seems to be outsmarting me. Hands off, lights out, carry on crunching...

Once the queue was filled it stays filled on my rigs.
----------------------------------------It seems that there is the same max wu limit of 25 wu in progress per cpu-core as there is at fight aids. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Eric_Kaiser at Dec 19, 2014 6:46:38 AM] |
