Re: ! no tasks available !

... this lop sided fiasco of a science. ...

I gues this depends on point of vieuw.

As I see it, there is work to do for research on Ebola. Even better, WCG is offering that possibility for everybody to contribute.

Everybody here should be excalted that we gobble up the work units faster than the scientists can produce them. It means that from our side we all really do all we can, and are pushing the scientists as fast as we can. Think about it, we really hit the upper limit of their capacity, constantly!

What does it matter that our machines are asking for more work units? More important is that the scientists have a virtual zero-waiting time for their results so they can keep on working.

How is your glass? Mine is half full.

You have missed the point by a country mile.

Re: ! no tasks available !

Great idea, except I can't find cache settings in the Windows client! blushing I have my own cunning plan with multiple instances oversubscribing the number of cores, so that each core will crunch UGM flat out when there is no OET and share the workload when there is OET. However, after 12 hours of fishing only for OET, the over-subscribed instance has failed to catch a single one - and I'm kicking it with a manual update from time to time, when I'm passing! laughing Which reminds me, this is all possible because of Lynn Conway..... #ThxLynn

..... Update: got 1 OET per thread on my over-subscribed instance, but none queued. My cunning plan sort-of works thinking

@NAP

Don't be so certain of that. I just choose to see the positive side instead of wallowing in negativity.

It sure makes me feel better. It just also might help explain new members what is happening.

In short: there are not enough tasks to keep everybody working on this. "Why" has been explained before. Since the half empty glasses seem to be the more vocal here for the moment, i decided to post a half full glass message as compensation.

Good hunting for the micromanagers btw. biggrin It does work if you put energy in the hunt.

Re: ! no tasks available !

It is not possible for the computing resources provided by the volunteers to exactly equal the amount needed by the scientists. Either too much is provided, and the supply waiting to be distributed is close to zero, or too little is provided, in which case the backlog grows longer.

Guess which is better?

Re: ! no tasks available !

Get new crunchers, to work on Ebola, no tasks, they went away.
I don't know about new crunchers going away, but I'm sure that WCG didn't want this situation. I imagine there is an urgency to get the OET WUs out the door and there was an unforeseen issue with the "flex" WUs.
Wish I had never seen this lop sided fiasco of a science.
I sure WCG is not hiding the OET WUs just to piss you off
Some users are even up to 2 years, we have 1 day.
This is normal. Those "power" users have more CPU potential than you and me and a whole bunch people together. BTW, I don't have a day's worth of OET WUs either. biggrin

My glass is neither half full, nor half empty, it is just too big for the job.
