Successful Ebola vaccine a ‘game-changer’
----------------------------------------By Helen Branswell National Post - (Latest Edition) Aug 1 2015 TORONTO • It appears the world finally has an effective Ebola vaccine. Ebola virus mutations may help it evade drug treatment
Genetic mutations called 'escape variants' in the deadly Ebola virus appear to block the ability of antibody-based treatments to ward off infection, according to scientists. Their findings have implications for the continued development of therapeutics to treat Ebola virus disease, which has claimed the lives of over 11,000 people in West Africa since last year. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/09/150911140719.htm ![]() |

As far as I understood in the Lancet article, the vaccine is 65% effective. So, that's better than nothing, but means that a therapeutic agent would be very welcome.

Who said we could now stop [after finding a promising vaccine]? Not so http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/15/world/europ...;WT.nav=top-news&_r=1
"One possibility is that late complications could be an unanticipated consequence of experimental treatments that include antibodies, like ZMapp, that help remove the virus from the patient’s blood, but are not thought to be capable of crossing from the bloodstream into the brain." |

Kickstarter recently 'kicked' off a few for lack of proof, in amongst a laser razor blade... mockups, but they were like what you buy at ToysR'Us. Then there are straw-men who record pledges, and then when the capital has been reached, collect, refund the strawmen and buy the mustang they always wanted... there's lots of Andrea Rossi's around, and fools too ;>)

I can't find it but I think that DRACO was mentioned, in these forums, before.

A high school student, Olivia Hallisey, has invented a new test for Ebola that does not require refrigeration and is therefore easier to use in areas without reliable refrigeration.
