Re: Interesting News Articles About Ebola

This is kind of neat:

Cellphone-sized device quickly detects the Ebola virus

"Now scientists report in ACS’ journal Analytical Chemistry a handheld instrument that detects Ebola quickly and could be used in remote locations." (ACS = American Chemical Society)

"The new process took less than 37 minutes, and the amount of blood required was minute and could potentially come from just a finger prick. The device successfully detected the Ebola RNA."

Nice, from Scripps, OET1 lead herself "This sGP protein is tremendously important," said TSRI Professor Erica Ollmann Saphire, who co-led the study with TSRI Associate Professor Andrew Ward. "This is the roadmap we need to target the right molecules in infection."

Re: Interesting News Articles About Ebola

August 15 article from Scripps on Ebola fight. It is not clear if what is described here has anything to do with the WCG project.

New vaccine coalition aims to ward off epidemics

The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) which launched its website today, grew out of the widespread conviction that vaccines languishing in R&D could have prevented the recent Ebola epidemic in West Africa that killed more than 11,000 people. "CEPI is something the world desperately needs, and we've been struggling to create for several years," says John-Arne Rottingen, who headed the steering committee of an Ebola vaccine trial in Guinea that yielded astonishing positive results.
