Re: Cannot Upload--COmmunication Deferred

Hello everybody,

I need your help to understand why my BOINC manager can't download WU anymore since 23 february.

I tried to read other threads where users ask some help to fix similar problems. But I can't manage to re-start the download of new WU.

However, I participate to other projects (Rosetta@home, Einstein@home and Yoyo@home), and the BOINC Manager downloads, crunches and uploads WU perfectly.... That's a mystery to me.

Many thanks to forumers that may have time to help me.

Re: Cannot Upload--COmmunication Deferred

Please don't post same problem in multiple threads, and this one off-topic too [it's called thread hi-jack]! Continue on your new open thread.

thx

Re: Cannot Upload--COmmunication Deferred

Humm, I'm not sure to understand very well about this problem...
I got this issue in the logs, and it's not possible to "speak" with the main server....

Is there something to do with my Debian 8 ? Easily ?
Or do I have to wait for an update...?

dist-upgrade already done...

Re: No close tag in scheduler reply

@knreed Feb 16, 2016 4:35:52 PM GMT
This thread is discussing issues of the form:

2/11/2016 1:42:17 PM | World Community Grid | [error] Can't parse workunit in scheduler reply: unexpected XML tag or syntax
2/11/2016 1:42:17 PM | World Community Grid | [error] No close tag in scheduler reply
...
We are investigating the issue. Based on monitoring scheduler requests for a period of time it looks like about 0.4% of scheduler requests are terminating this way. We have been able to capture some of the scheduler requests (a debugging feature of BOINC) that end this way and we are able to see that the scheduler crashes (Segmentation fault) during the request. We are attempting to debug what is causing it to crash at that point. Uplinger is leading the investigation and will report when he has more news.
I'm resurrecting this thread because one of my machines started with this problem about 12 hours ago. Did the investigation lead to any fix?

07/07/2016 09:23:12 | World Community Grid | Reporting 31 completed tasks
07/07/2016 09:23:12 | World Community Grid | Requesting new tasks for CPU
07/07/2016 09:23:16 | World Community Grid | [error] Can't parse task in scheduler reply: unexpected XML tag or syntax
07/07/2016 09:23:16 | World Community Grid | [error] No close tag in scheduler reply

The Results Status page shows that completed tasks are uploading and reporting successfully, but the client doesn't know that and leaves them as Ready to Report. No new tasks are able to download.

This problem is still ongoing for that machine. I've added the unparsed_xml log flag and get this:

Re: No close tag in scheduler reply

Same for me, no tasks downloaded for at least two days and 25 ready to report.

Re: No close tag in scheduler reply

Thanks for making me feel less lonely! Have you checked your Results Status page for that machine? According to mine, my completed tasks (all OpenZika) are still uploading, reporting and turning Valid, despite the client thinking they haven't reported (saying 59 ready to report so far).
My Plan A is to a) wait a bit more and see if it resolves spontaneously (as others have reported), then b) when I run out of tasks (77 to go, say about 24+ hours clock time), experiment with detaching, reinstalling, deleting folders, ...

Re: No close tag in scheduler reply

Try reducing the number of allowed reports concurrently in cc_config and disable task requesting

<max_tasks_reported>N</max_tasks_reported>

Set N to 1 for starters.

Re: No close tag in scheduler reply

Thanks for that suggestion, SekeRob - I'd seen it before, but forgotten about it. The result is:

07/07/2016 20:52:45 | World Community Grid | Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
07/07/2016 20:52:45 | World Community Grid | Reporting 1 completed tasks
07/07/2016 20:52:45 | World Community Grid | Not requesting tasks: "no new tasks" requested via Manager
07/07/2016 20:52:48 | World Community Grid | Scheduler request completed
repeated lots of times, then suddenly get
07/07/2016 20:53:57 | World Community Grid | Result ZIKA_000034019_x4wxp_HCV_NS3helcs_A_0050_0 is no longer usable
and LOTS of similar lines (but they're already validated, so no problem). This successsfully cleared all Ready to Report tasks from the client.

Then I re-enabled work fetch and get:

07/07/2016 20:58:45 | World Community Grid | work fetch resumed by user
07/07/2016 21:00:38 | World Community Grid | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
07/07/2016 21:00:38 | World Community Grid | Requesting new tasks for CPU
07/07/2016 21:00:41 | World Community Grid | [error] Can't parse task in scheduler reply: unexpected XML tag or syntax
07/07/2016 21:00:41 | World Community Grid | [error] No close tag in scheduler reply

What's next, please?!
