It's interesting to read about the boycott as I came to the forum to see why so few SCC WUs are being given to me. I'm hardly receiving any on either my computer or my Android phone. It's not as bad as TB but not too good. Perhaps SCC is boycotting me. That's strange. I continue to receive (and crunch) SCC wus on all my pc... |

I continue to receive SCC but not very many of them. For example on my primary machine there are currently 34 WUs running or waiting to run and only 1 is SCC. As there are only 7 current projects I would expect 1/7 to be from each project and that would mean I should have 5 SCC units. Or if done by processing time even a higher number. Over time the difference in what is handed out becomes very apparent and unbalanced. I don't know how WCG decides what to give you but obviously it's not balanced for me. Ebola is by far what I receive the most and also the ones which take the most time to process.
----------------------------------------My Android phone only processes Zika and SCC and the ration is probably 10:1 or greater in favour of Zika. On an older laptop which only does MIP and SCC it's maybe 20:1 in favour of MIP. ![]() |

WCG uses a weighting process to allocate the work units. The work units are allocated approximately thus: MIP 25.66% SCC 13.04% ZIKA 14.41% TB 0.06% FAAH II 16.64% EBOLA 7.06% MCM 23.10% It does not quite amount to 100% due to rounding errors. I did this in a quick and dirty way just by the number of work units done. It can also be done by using the time devoted to each project which will probably give a slightly different answer. The figures may differ by operating system but I have no way of calculating by operating system. Cheers

Interesting Sgt. Joe. That doesn't explain why I get so much Ebola and so little SCC. It sounds like you can't take into account that Android only seems to be able to process Zika and SCC. That might explain why they are so high and Ebola is so low. Some people are also limiting their computers to only certain WUs in order to get badges which would also skew the results.

Also, it may not account for run times. I get very few SCC, but their run time is only 46 minutes on my Ryzen 1700 (Ubuntu 18.04), wheres MIP is 1 hour 36 minutes and MCM is about 4 hours, for example.
So you would need many more SCC to see them very often. |

The project is at the end and no scientific (or project) news....
----------------------------------------I opened this tread 10 months ago and i think that, in all this time, a single word could be said by the administrators (like, for example, "thanks"). And, please, spare me the "history" of Japanes/English language [Edit 1 times, last edit by [VENETO] boboviz at Nov 21, 2018 7:05:43 AM] |

I opened this tread 10 months ago and i think that, in all this time, a single word could be said by the administrators (like, for example, "thanks"). Well, look on the bright side of things. This forum will be archived soon and then we'll have new admins that may not be as asocial. ![]() |

Providing feedback to the project is more a (lead) scientist's duty than admin's duty.
----------------------------------------WCG admin are not asocial and they communicate well and as necessary. Cheers, Yves |

Childhood Cancer work units have been in high demand - people are picking it as their project and opting out of Ebola and Zika.
Like...some people care a lot more about a kid dying of cancer near them then one dying of Lassa Fever in Africa. Anyway, if you're neutral with work units you may end up getting the 'leftover's after the picky people take theirs. For the record, to maximize individual work unit speed (and thus overall WCG efficiency), people on Windows should opt into MCM, FAH 2, and MIP. People on Linux should do SCC and Zika (and AIDS phase 1, if it returns). |

Actually OET is ending and has had no WU for multiple days, so the computers have shifted to other projects.
----------------------------------------Comparing rough October averages to today: Zika nearly doubled from 70 years/day to 130 MCM went from 190 years/day to 270 MIP has gone from 110 years/day to 130 FAHB went from 20 years/day to 30 SCC went from 45 years/day to 60 The increases equal out to 60 + 80 + 20 + 10 + 15 = 185 which is similar to the roughly 150 that OET was getting on average in October. Edits: The last line and added SCC to the mix. ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Seoulpowergrid at Nov 28, 2018 2:27:51 AM] |
