Re: Suddenly 91% complete

Also, there must me something happening, as the SCC last year was producing about 100.000 batches per day, while now (after 20.08.) SCC is doing around 200.000 batches per day: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewP....do?numRecordsPerPage=365 So that is also an effect to take into consideration that SCC is going to end sooner than expected! Has the weight of the project itself changed? Or has there been many people going into SCC research - that info is upon WCG side to disclose.

This is an easy one. The average time per work unit has decreased dramatically. I don't know the reason for this, but perhaps they are working with smaller proteins or doing fewer iterations. Just speculation on my part.
Cheers

Re: Suddenly 91% complete

Thank you all for your suggestions regarding the active project progress bars. Revamping the progress bars will not be worked on in the immediate future, but we will review your suggestions when we do work on that task.

Thank you for your support,

Re: Suddenly 91% complete

Just checked today, are there any changes.

Only got difference in days. So we got "only 50 days left" now on current speed. So anybody who needs a badge, run for it! cool

Re: Suddenly 91% complete

+1 for hchc, time and speed variables do not belong to percentage calculator.

We have 10 000 batches, we have done 5 000 = 50%
We add 10 000 more, total 20 000 - 5 000 done = 25% and so on.

Re: Suddenly 91% complete

So while people share their opinions on what the best equation would be, and WCG Tech says the number will stabilize and drop as the weeks go on, the predicted number hit 92% complete.

Keep crunching faster than the servers can compensate!

Re: Suddenly 91% complete

Well if SCC runs out early without i get a new badge..NO WORRY

Only hope that a second phase or a new project will aim again at
finding cures mainly for child cancers.

Re: Suddenly 91% complete

Well, at the pace I'm going, I figure I'll hit my next badge sometime between the end of Oct 2018 and the end of Nov 2018, so even if the Nov 2018 end date all of the sudden becomes a cut off point, I may still make it (but not by much).

This 92% is still going up, so it is a bit confusing. Anyway, if this will take several weeks to resolve, the question is how long before the percentage starts to go back down to some lower level and the Nov 2018 end date comes off the research page. Until that happens, I don't necessarily view this issue as resolved (at least to those out in the field crunching along).

Re: Suddenly 91% complete

Hi rbotterb,

I understand what you're saying about "not resolved" in that the numbers are still questionable, but my OP was about "what happened" and that has been answered.

Kevin said
we had a huge flurry of batches completing (260 in the last 48 hours vs a normal pack of about 10). As a result, this is has temporarily thrown off our "end of project" completion estimates since those are based on the number of batches completed.

The estimates will return to normal once this surge is over.

and I must say that it is worded ambiguously. "Return to normal" could mean "will drop back down again" and it could mean "won't increase suddenly again". I had assumed the former, but we're seeing the latter.

Unless we're told more about the estimation process we can have no idea how things might move in the future. Personally I was expecting to get a 10-year badge for this project, but that looks very unlikely now. But what the heck, the science is what counts!

SCC is ending in mid Nov, unless some harder batches/WU's come into distribution:
https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=594738

But the slowdown of few days, does not give me hope. Personally, I'm running SCC only, to get the badge done before Nov. That is the plan, at least! wink

Seems to me, that we all need to crunch & wait for mid Oct for bigger batches/WU's to come into play. cool

Re: Suddenly 91% complete

Wait, I thought Kevin said things would settle back to normal....
I guess I'm not going to make it to my first 100yr badge.
