Re: Is anybody still getting work?

I've had good luck picking up work with the following setup:
HSTB and ZIKA selected.
ZIKA limited to the number of cores on the machine.
Work cache set to 1 day.

This way, I always have work, but it continues to automatically request to try to get to the 1 day cache. I've gotten over a dozen so far in the past couple of weeks, and with Caitlin's message that work is not ending any time soon, this method should be more than good enough to get me to Ruby.

That said, I also have a couple machines set to MIP and HSTB, without the limit to MIP because they don't connect to the Internet often, and I rarely get any HSTB with those.

Instead of ZIKA, shouldn't that be FAAH2 (FAHB)? As far as I know, FAAH2 is the only project limited to the number of cores unless they have changed ZIKA recently

I am running HSTB with FAAH2 but if any FAAH2 come in, they will push the HSTB aside until they finish. I have juggled the queue and it is currently full of HSTB, the most I have seen since the drips and drabs of the last couple of years.

If you download app_config, you can restrict the number of cores/threads that can run a particular project.

For instance, say you have 8 cores/threads, you could restrict Faah2 to 2 and leave Hstb on 8. Your machine would then run only 2 Faah2 and 6 Hstb when you have Faah2 units and 8 Hstb when you don't have any Faah2.

If you want a copy of app_config, email me on Mike.Gibson@sky.com and I will send you a copy with instructions on where to load it and how to use it.

Re: Is anybody still getting work?

Mike, you can also set that number of WU per project within the device profile page: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewDevices.do

Re: Is anybody still getting work?

If you do both, profile by-project allowed to cache and app_config you can have an extra buffer and still control how many run. I've set limits in profile + 1, so there's always one on the machine to start when one finishes. Set report immediately and within a few minutes the next 'backup' is downloaded of only that science that has a vacancy, effectively having minimized the buffer, yet always an even spread of science contribution for 4 projects on 8 cores. Never an idle core.

Re: Is anybody still getting work?

There is a difference as to how the 2 methods work. The numbers at the bottom of the device profile page restrict how many of each project you can hold in your cache. app_config restricts how many of each project your machine will crunch at any one time, but if you set 0 it ignores that restriction.

If you don't want any then deselect that project at the top of the device profile page.

Re: Is anybody still getting work?

Well, I seem to get a slow but kind of steady flow of WUs to have about a dozen WUs across all my hosts crunching at all times. Nothing to get excited about, but "steter Tropfen höhlt den Stein"...
