Re: Questions about work units and badges for OpenPandemics (launch TBA)

Dayle Diamond, too soon to tell what the work unit deadlines will be - we'll have more clarity on that further down the onboarding process.

retsof, apologies if the sign up email was confusing. The messaging is more intended for new volunteers to let them know that we'll follow up with instructions of how to install the World Community Grid application on their computer to contribute to OpenPandemics once it launches.

Re: Questions about work units and badges for OpenPandemics (launch TBA)

Will this project have GPU workunits or will it be CPU only like the rest of the current WU's? I see autodock does have an optional GPU version.

Already answered. Read the OpenPandemics Science and Technology Thread.
CPU only at first, eventually they hope to get the GPU application working but no ETA on that.

Re: Questions about work units and badges for OpenPandemics (launch TBA)

The last time we ran Autodock tasks, they had long deadlines. If I recall, it was either a week or ten days.

Will the work units have 24 or 48 hour deadline to ensure the coronavirus units return as quickly as possible and prevent cycles of hoarding and 'no-reply/too-late'?

Good afternoon,

Due to an issue with Android work units clogging the system, we started working on a mechanism that would limit the number of concurrent workunits allowed per core based on application version id. This means that a device that downloads windows 64 bit version of it may be limited to say 2 for every core they have. An 8 core machine would only be allowed to have 16 total work units on their machine. We are still working on this feature but hope to have it deployed in advance of OpenPandemics. This will be a configuration on the database side so limits can be easily lifted or shifted.

Also, we do not have a deadline set for the results yet. It will depend on how long the work units are planning to take on each members machine as well as what the return rate the researchers need these results back.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: Questions about work units and badges for OpenPandemics (launch TBA)

I hope that limit isn't limited to 64 like before. There are systems out there that have at least 128 cores (threads) and systems being sold now that have 256 cores available. I had to ask to have the limit raised for my 128 core machine. Don't limit it. just use #of cores X 2 regardless of the number of cores. While typing another thought occurred, will this limit ignore the ncpus setting?

Do we have any further information regarding progress through alpha testing?

Re: Questions about work units and badges for OpenPandemics (launch TBA)

Dark Angel, we just started an initial beta test, while we continue alpha testing certain aspects of the project. For more details: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg...ead,42232_offset,0#624302.

Many thanks,
Juan

Re: Questions about work units and badges for OpenPandemics (launch TBA)

  • At this time, AutoDock runs on Windows, Mac and Linux but not Android.

One question regarding the beta test that has started today:
Earlier in this thread it was said that AutoDock does not run on Android.
But in the beta test today we see WUs running on Android.

So does that mean OpenPandemics will support Android/ARM processors?
--------------
Edit: The question has been answered in Beta Forum: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=624450

Thank you very much. It would be great if OpenPandemics runs on Android/ARM Linux.
