Hi all,
Badges are unique not just per project, but also for each phase of a project. i.e. any future phases of the OpenPandemics project focusing on other outbreaks would have a different badge design. Also, a reminder that although OpenPandemics - COVID-19 will prioritize studying proteins from SARS-CoV2 (the virus that causes COVID-19), the research team will also include proteins from the SARS-CoV1 (the virus from which SARS-CoV2 mutated) to help them find or design molecules capable of overcoming future mutations. Many thanks, Juan |

Not surprising since most, if not all, coronaviruses originate from bats. Then it had to jump to an animal before attacking humans. One suspect for that is a Pangolin.

1. What will the reporting deadlines be? 7 days? 10 days? (Other?)
----------------------------------------2. Will this be Quorum 1 or 2? 3. Are there any restrictions on the # of results that each computer can download at a time? I prefer short buffers but long enough to last one day in case of a WCG outage or outage on my end. Thanks!

Many thanks, Juan Juan, could we please get a 200-year badge included with OpenPandemics? I have contributed more than 223 years to the Fight AIDS At Home (Phase 1) project, yet for all that work I only got a 100-year badge! Please and Thank You! |

Quorum of 1 with checks, similar to VINA projects. 3. I am hoping to not have a restriction for this project, but we will need to see what the supply rate and distribution rate is from the researchers and members. Thanks, -Uplinger |

Hi Papa3, I'll be honest: there are no plans to include a 200-year badge for OpenPandemics - COVID-19. It is something we're considering for the future (not just for this project but across World Community Grid), but this is not a top priority at this moment. Many thanks, Juan |

= The Badge I Would Have If WCG Knew How To Do Its Badges Correctly WOW! Would you like some cheese with that whine?

3. I am hoping to not have a restriction for this project, but we will need to see what the supply rate and distribution rate is from the researchers and members. Can we use SCC as a template: SCC returned 400,000 to 500,000 results per day with WUs running approx 1 hour +-. It looks like OPN is being targeted at about 3 to 4 hours. With OPN running 1/3 as fast can we assume about 150,000 per day? Bump it a little to account for the popularity of a new project and subject matter and say 250,000 per day. I would build the infrastructure to handle 500,000 per day just to be safe. Then at 10,000 per batch, once again using the beta as a model, that would be 15 batches per day. Then allowing for a queue of say maybe 30 days, the researchers would need to provide a minimum of 450 batches per month. That's using the 150,000 per day minimum. Using the 500,000 per day stretch goal, the would be 1500 batches per month. Do the researches have a place for the data ready to go? We have seen some other projects run for years and then start analyzing the data. I'm hoping OPN already has the analysis tools ready to go as soon as results start hitting their lab. Here's hoping for a smooth rollout..... |
