A New Killer On The Loose: B.1.621
A group of seven residents in a Belgian nursing home died after infection with a new variant, all of whom were fully vaccinated according to virologists on the scene. Though the vaccine used in these residents was not made public, it was likely either AstraZeneca or an mRNA vaccine such as Pfizer and Moderna, among those most frequently used in the country. https://www.forbes.com/sites/williamhaseltine...se-b1621/?sh=6f04c0ea3d1f |

How do vaccinated people spread Delta? What the science says
Emerging data suggest that Delta could spread more readily than other coronaviruses among people vaccinated against COVID-19. But key questions remain. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-02187-1 ![]() |

NIH trial finds blood plasma therapy doesn't prevent COVID-19 progression
The results of a major trial testing convalescent plasma therapy for COVID-19 in high-risk outpatients have been published in The New England Journal of Medicine. Highly effective nanobody treatment for COVID-19 is headed for clinical trials
[. . .] According to the Göttingen team, newly developed nanobodies bind up to 1000 times more strongly to the spike protein than previously reported ones — also binding effectively to the domains of the Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta strains. Inhalation suitability of the single nanobodies can lead to direct neutralization in the respiratory tract. Owing to their small size, they can also penetrate the tissue and effectively discontinue the spread of the virus from the initial site of infection.
