The vaccines have not received final approval in the U.S. Even if they had, the countries receiving them would probably have to provide the companies, the states, and the U.S. government with legal immunity if something goes wrong.

The experience of AstraZeneca in the EU does not give much cause for hope.

Scientists urge local mask mandates as Delta sweeps the U.S.

Few places are considering renewals of the policy, but experts suggest it's wise for everyone-including the vaccinated-to wear masks in public indoor spaces.

Re: Interesting News Articles About OPN1 - COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus

Concern grows over rise of respiratory virus and Delta infections among children.
Health officials have expressed concern over a simultaneous rise in Delta infections and cases of a respiratory virus known as respiratory syncytial virus, or R.S.V., a highly contagious, flulike illness, that is typically more likely to affect children and older adults.

Cases of R.S.V. have risen gradually since early June, with an even greater spike in the past month, according to data by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. R.S.V., which can cause symptoms that include a runny nose, coughing, sneezing and fever, normally begins to spread in the fall, making this summer spike unusual.

In a series of posts on Twitter, Dr. Heather Haq, a pediatrician at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, described an increase in both coronavirus and R.S.V. hospitalizations. Dr. Haq is also the chief medical officer for the Baylor College of Medicine International Pediatric AIDS Initiative at Texas Children’s Hospital.

“After many months of zero or few pediatric Covid cases, we are seeing infants, children and teens with Covid pouring back into the hospital, more and more each day,” she wrote, adding that patients have ranged in age from 2 weeks to 17 years old, including some with Covid pneumonias.

Looks like more bad news. This virus has no intention of giving up.

If you're having trouble reading a nytimes article just clear your cookies, or at least the nytimes cookie. Other methods suggested are to go to the web site in a new private window or use reader mode.

Or, alternatively, if you have Linux, use 'lynx' or 'links' as textmode only browser.
Or, use 'wget' to download the URL, then use 'links' or 'lynx' to view the downloaded file. cool

At least for the regular articles (and not the live threads like the one linked above) subscribers have a "gift" link with a button that looks like a present that allows them to let anyone read an article (they can do this 10 times per month). They say there's no limits on the number of people viewing the link. See more here. Something to keep in mind for anyone updating this thread in the future. As I am a subscriber here is one I generated after finding the standalone version of the live posting above.
