Another thing to check here is if it is actually the battery pack swelling or just the covering. I have one phone that has had two swelling batteries, but upon closer inspection it appeared to only be the black plastic battery cover (not the phone cover) that was swelling. I think the constant heat broke down the glue and allowed some air to get into the battery cover and it swelled like a balloon. After a while it dissipated and the battery pack felt smooth and solid underneath.

I had a battery bloat on my Motorola G5 Plus, after running it at more or less maximum cores and cpu cycles for a year, but I limited it to 36 degrees C in the settings, which, I figured, being less than human body temperature, should be no worse than having it in your pocket. But it still bloated, I guess due to the continuous inflow of charge current. But I still think limiting battery temperature is the key to stopping bloat. Anyhow, I had the battery replaced about 6 months ago, and limited it this time to 30 degrees C., running all cores, maximum cpu cycles. Its an 8 core phone, and this seems to only give about half the maximum points, due to thermal throttling, but, so far so good, no bloat visible and its plugged in charging 24/7 the last 6 months. Also it is sitting on a mount so air can circulate around the back of it.

I use a cheap mechanical 24-hour timer set to 3-hour on/off cycles and a 5-port charging station. Works great. have 4 tablets running like this 24/7.

I run 4 Android devices next to each other, 24/7. I've set them all up so they don't use all cores. Especially on the 8 core phone and tablet BOINC can't use all cores, because of a restriction set by Android itself. So all devices are set to use 50% of the cores, or where there's just 4 cores to use 3 cores.
----------------------------------------And then there's cooling. I have all my devices lying on top of a cabinet in my living room with a giant 230mm fan next to them blowing cool air over them, which helps in cooling them down sufficiently that the batteries don't pop. See https://photos.app.goo.gl/wL8t7anUf7tqneXF6 for my setup. I'm using a standard fan splitter with a Molex connector, and a power brick with Molex connector. I've set the fan to spin at 5V instead of 12V. This is sufficient to cool all the devices. For fun I'm using another fan splitter with Molex brick to power an AMD Wraith Prism RGB fan (with heat sink attached) that I have lying on the desk next to me blowing cool air over me. ![]()
