Isn't it time for some GPU beta soon? I hope it happens before they carry me out feet first, which may not be too far away...... I know we would all like a GPU client as soon as possible. If you have not already have a read of the September project update (found in news section) & you will see there is no exact time to when the GPU application will be released ![]() |

GPU support is clearly on its way, in the latest update for the FightAIDS@Home project we can read :
AutoDock on GPU The Phase 1 team also recently completed a paper about the GPU version of AutoDock, which they submitted to a journal for review a couple of weeks ago. (The GPU version of AutoDock for use on World Community Grid is currently undergoing a security review at IBM.) https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewNewsArticle.do?articleId=655 Last time I checked in my process list, openpandemics also uses autodock. This codebase is managed by Scripps, besides IBM you may also peek at the code on Github here: https://github.com/ccsb-scripps/AutoDock-GPU There are recent updates so it's actively being developed, from the comments to the code it is clear they are working on both OpenCL and CUDA support. So we will keep our fingers crossed for the official announcment. |

Wow, so one could presume that other projects currently on WCG could also receive the GPU treatment? Exciting news if true. |

None of the current projects, aside from OPN, use AutoDock, so this really only applies to OPN and maybe FAAH, but FAAH hasn't used AutoDock for several years, I think (they used AutoDock Vina and most recently, BEDAM). Who knows, in the future, we may get another project that runs on AutoDock and maybe it can use the GPU version. Looks like IBM's code review of the GPU software is SLOOOOOOOWWWWWWW. Not sure why they are taking so long. I mean...it's only related to a world wide PANDEMIC. |

Rather be slow than sorry.
----------------------------------------They probably do not want to approve code that will only fail beta testing and will have to go back to the drawing board. Of course we really need to accelerate OPN1 as much as possible but just like developing vaccive...developing working complex code takes...well, time :/ Hopefully, in the mean time there will be more RTX30xx cards produced so that pople actually can get hold of them, and the RX60xx series have launched. ![]() Join The International Team: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=CK9RP1BKX1 AMD TR2990WX @ PBO, 64GB Quad 3200MHz 14-17-17-17-1T, RX6900XT @ Stock AMD 3800X @ PBO AMD 2700X @ 4GHz |

IIRC, the IBM review is just a security review. The WCG team already looked at the code and was working on improving performance of the OpenCL application.
----------------------------------------This AutoDock GPU application (at least the CUDA version) has already been used by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory's (ORNL) Summit. From the AutoDock Github page: "The Cuda version was developed in collaboration with Nvidia to run AutoDock-GPU on the Oak Ridge National Laboratory's (ORNL) Summit, and it included a batched ligand pipeline developed by Aaron Scheinberg from Jubilee Development." We'll see how long it takes. Yes, I understand that the newest tech is not available to everyone. I was trying to see the bigger picture though - fact is that RTX30xx cards are sold out and if only people who play games and buy RTX also crunch here...it could mean a great deal in an attempt to accelerate OPN research.
----------------------------------------If it will work on older devices then that would of course be very good since even more GPUs can be added into the mix! I guess it will be decided upon the supported versions of CUDA and OpenCL for Nvidia and AMD respectively. We'll just have to wait and see I suppose. ![]() Join The International Team: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=CK9RP1BKX1 AMD TR2990WX @ PBO, 64GB Quad 3200MHz 14-17-17-17-1T, RX6900XT @ Stock AMD 3800X @ PBO AMD 2700X @ 4GHz |
