Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 5 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

I have an i5-4670K CPU with the internal video enabled. It's running Debian Linux (Buster), and the correct OpenCL drivers are installed. The iGPU shows up on other BOINC projects.

I am unable to download any beta tasks for this GPU. Another computer, running an Nvidia GPU under Windows, is getting tasks right now.

Should I be able to get tasks for the Intel iGPU, or have they been turned off?

From the BOINC log:

1248 World Community Grid 3/6/2021 8:29:37 PM Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
1249 World Community Grid 3/6/2021 8:29:37 PM Requesting new tasks for Intel GPU
1250 World Community Grid 3/6/2021 8:29:39 PM Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks

I'm an administrator of a BOINC project that's been running various GPU apps for over 10 years, so if there's anything I can do to help, just let me know.

Cheers!

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 5 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

I would like to get feedback from other volunteers about their experiences so far relating to SSD activity during the computation of these gpu WUs. Personally, I saw a huge spike in overall activity while running 4 WUs at a time across 2 gpus. The spikes in SSD write activity were directly corrected with the spikes in gpu ultilization, so it seems that after job that is packaged within a given gpu WU induces the final result to be written to the SSD. If the general notion of my thought here were to be true, it would seem a little excessive given the overall short runtimes. Isn’t there a way to reduce this? Caching multiple results in the meantime....

Open to any suggestions as to how to deal with this on the client side :)

I just don't run BOINC on the SSD... why would i do that?

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 5 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Hi there,

i just got GPU-tasks for OpenPandemics for the first time and immediately got bluescreens - btw: first ever on Windows 10! sad

I run milkyway on NVidia GT640 and GT430 without any problems, but OpenPandemics immediately crashes so hard, the system restarts itself with an error report. Report says something about "graphics tdr".

Anyway, keep up the good work!

With all the beta versions so far, they have been failing on an AMD A8-5500 APU. All the other machines (with different processors) have been working fine, so this may be specific to this CPU version.

Just want to confirm a simple question. Once GPU goes into production will all stats from CPU and GPU units still be together under existing OpenPandemic project or will GPU get its own separate project and stats? Curious since i shifted CPU resources to another project in anticipation of getting one hundred year badge with GPU units.

They were all grouped together for the HCC GPU app I would guess the same will apply for OPN as well.

I asked similar question in the previous beta test thread. What you say makes complete sense, had forgotten stats were grouped together for HCC when the GPU application was released.
Only difference this time around possibly is the fact that this project will last longer than HCC did. At least I certainly hope it does, on the other hand though it would be great if we could complete all research in a matter of months

There is probably exponentially more GPU computing power now then there was when HCC GPU app was running so how long it will take to finish the OPN project will be determined by how much work there will be to crunch. JMHO. Just looking back at my stats I racked up about half my points and tasks completed in less than 18% of my total run time on the HCC GPU app so it should be fun to see what happens when OPNG goes full production.

I had some WUs running forever. e.g. this one: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/...s.do?workunitId=561082354

It stuck at 72% and is running for about 6 hours now. Pausing and restarting fixes the problem. Then it jumpes back to ~11 Min computing time and needs just 3 more minutes to finish. https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/...og.do?resultId=1546474764

Have seen this at 4 or 5 WUs, mostly with NV 1660 Super. They got stuck at different points from 20 to 72 %.
