Out of curiosity: Anyone ran this on a NVIDIA Quadro P400? I don't think this workunits will use double presision but i'm still interested in how this quite unexpensive, available and not powerhungry card would perform (if it actually can run it). If your GPU supports OpenCL 1.2 then it could possibly run the tasks. This project will not use DP.

Hi:
My Alienware laptop has an Nvidia GeForce GTX 660M GPU. How or where do I research whether it will run OpenCL 1.2? Clive |

That is weird..
I have found on the Nvidia website that it does not support 1.2. Looks like the whole 600m family supports opencl up to 1.1. https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/gaming-l...-gtx-660m/specifications/ |

But 660M has failed utterly so far, even though it seems to be OpenCL 1.2 compatible. At least it failed for me, and several others. Might be different in the new 7.27 version of the app, if Uplinger have fixed the DP issue in the previous app.
----------------------------------------It's not certain that it will fix the 660M errors, but we'll see when the next Beta run, with 7.27 starts. And yes, there's a difference between what some Nvidia pages says about the OpenCL capability of the 660M, and what other sites says. However, with the latest possible driver, it declares itself as OpenCL 1.2 both in clinfo and GPU-Z. So, wait for app version 7.27, and try it again. With some luck it might work. Edit: The Nvidia page in question also says: Note: The below specifications represent the GPU features available. Actual implementation may vary by OEM model. Please refer to OEM website for actual shipping specifications. [Edit 5 times, last edit by Grumpy Swede at Mar 9, 2021 10:40:58 PM] |

Clive Hi Clive, You can check it in TechPowerUps GPU database: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-gtx-660m.c345 It says Opencl 1.2 there at least. Looks like we have conflicting data. The Nvidia website says it supports OpenCl 1.1. Don't know what to say about the TechPowerUp database. Maybe there is a firmware update for the GPU that makes it OpenCL 1.2 compatible. Clive. Download and run GPU-Z. That should tell you what version of OpenCl you have.

With the Driver version that came with my 660M (don't have the old version number right now, but the card is from 2012-2013 I believe), it showed up as OpenCL 1.1. With newer versions it shows up as OpenCL 1.2
----------------------------------------![]() I have that card in my ASUS Republic of Gamers, G-75VW So, it's hard to tell really, it depends on what driver you have installed when you run GPU-Z, or clinfo. [Edit 2 times, last edit by Grumpy Swede at Mar 9, 2021 11:03:59 PM] |

Download and run GPU-Z. That should tell you what version of OpenCl you have. I found, on an Nvidia web page no longer accessible, that some of the GeForce GT nnn boards may have different GPUs, depending on what model it is. For example, some models of the GT 545 use a Fermi generation GPU, and some use a GPU from the generation after Fermi. I worked this out after finding that the motherboard and BIOS of one of my computers did not allow booting Windows when using an Nvidia GPU more recent than the Fermi generation, and no more recent BIOS was available. Also, most of the Nvidia GT xxxM boards do not support double precision. |

So, it's hard to tell really, it depends on what driver you have installed when you run GPU-Z, or clinfo. When you run GPU-Z app and hover the cursor over where it says OpenCL it should tell you which version you have.
