I have made the following observation since last night:
the processing time for the tasks now is about 4-5 times longer (on all my 4 machines), but the credit earned per task is just slightly higher than before. How come? |

I thought it was just me. I even rebooted the system thinking something had gone wonky with the GPU. My last 87 results turned in (sorted by return time), in BOINC credits per GPU hour:

I thought it was just me. I even rebooted the system thinking something had gone wonky with the GPU. ... well, I realized right away that something must be going wrong with the credit points since the imbalance between substantially larger tasks and only slightly hither credit showed up for all my machines. I remember when there were such larger tasks for several days some time last summer, the credit points went up accordingly (I think between 1.200 and 1.500 or so). But not this time. |

Not very consistent in what they do in this project. Very frustrating especially when a post stating WU changes would help let everyone know what is going on. |

Yup, many more "jobs" in the GPU WU's the last day, and pathetic credit/points for the increase of the time it takes to crunch them.
----------------------------------------My antique, low power GTX660M, usually takes 1.5 hours to crunch a WU, but now with these larger ones, 6+ hours seems to be the new value. And the credit/points for that huge increase, is just pathetic. OK, that's it. I'm calling The Crunchers Union, and then I'm going on a strike. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Grumpy Swede at Jan 11, 2022 9:23:03 PM] |

too bad that no one from the WCG team has so far given any comment regarding this current imbalance between larger tasks and too low credit.

If you are unhappy about the points then just un-tick GPU work. I can see that the combination of fewer jobs and less points for the ones that are around has hit the big producers hard but you will bounce back.

@bluestang, Grumpy Swede, erich56 (and others with similar concerns)
I posted something about this in another thread in response to bluestang's comment therein. Whilst I agree that something should be done about inconsistent task builds, I'm not sure there's anyone around at the moment who could do anything about it (and even if there is someone suitable, doing something like that as the transition moves towards completion is probably not a good idea! (Speaking with my [ex-]programmer hat on!) We'll have to see if there's the will to do something about it after the transition is complete, I suspect -- it remains to be seen if the response to [non-aggressive(!)] constructive feedback will start to [re]appear then. Cheers - Al. |

@alanb1951:
thanks for the information. I wasn't even aware that the transition to Krembil is not over yet. However, I would not consider it as "aggressive" feedback when pointing out that there is a major imbalance between size of task and credit for it. And that there is no one from the project people left who could look into this and take corrective action, is very unfortunate, of course. |
