Here we go again! Yup, I'm getting a ton of OPNG tasks now, and as predicted, the transient HTTP errors are back, with a vengeance.Haven't seen download errors for about a week... Happy project restart everyone! Ralf Edit, added: And the website is now filled up with molasses. But those download errors are now not only on those ARP1 WUs, but I even get hosts that have MCM1 WUs stuck in downloading. And no OPNG WUs in sight anywhere. Seems like we are back to the same old same old... ![]() Ralf ![]() |

I am trying to attach a computer to WCG via BOINC. It seems to be failing, for no specific reason. The error message I receive is
"Failed to add project Please try again later." Is the back end overloaded? |

Well, I guess all it took was asking. After posting I was able to connect more computers to WCG. Thanks!

I've got a blowout...Chamber 3....! (C'mon, Six Million Dollar Man fans!)
----------------------------------------As of 17:32 US CDT, I'm in project backoff, with multiple jobs showing some 3:29:00 until automatically retrying to send or receive. Manual override via "Retry Downloads" is ineffectual. Sent a batch of work back, and down it went.

So does this mean we're back to the alpha phase due to all the WU's hanging on the download?

Sent a batch of work back, and down it went. I've been having the same issue this evening - I didn't notice when it started, but clocked that it was happening about 2 hours ago. It took quite a few manual 'Retry Downloads' attempts for some of the files, but I managed to get them in the end. Looks like some are having issues, some are getting to me just fine at the moment... May try to just stockpile a few WUs just incase... Chris ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Thanks, Chris.
----------------------------------------I was trying to stockpile for the overnight session when all heck broke loose. Aa few WU's have slowly made their way to upload or download, but most are just sitting there as of 8:51 pm US CDT. So there's no way to stockpile when I can't get the downloads to finish, and they still show "down load pending (project backoff of about an hour). But sadly I have no confidence in those timelines; More than a few times since I joined, I had a machine sit online 8 hours waiting for downloads to finish and they never budged.I just managed to force the 4 finished jobs to get them out of the "Tasks" tab job list, but that didn't touch the incoming WU's. So we await uploading, downloading, and the next WCG message as to what broke this time...*sigh*. It worked so well for a few days that I boosted my daily average from in the low 100's to crossing 3,000 points a day. Well, I'll give WCG some time to get it fixed; if it gets crazy I'll temporarily go back to Folding@Home.

So does this mean we're back to the alpha phase due to all the WU's hanging on the download? If you ask me, we never left that orbit...I agree. With the announcement on FB that they transitioned from Alpha phase, I simply asked if that meant they are now in beta phase. I think people thought I was joking around, but it was a serious question as I felt with past messages they were being quite obtuse in their messaging. Anyone remember the email everyone got about WCG restarting, only to find out later it was in a beta phase and wanted everyone back to participate in that? My comment above IS a joke and I'm kidding around, but the original question stands. Exactly what phase does Krembil consider WCG to be in at this moment of time? I'll continue to do what I've done now for many months, which is to crunch for other projects that I feel are worthy (TN-Grid and DENIS@Home - although TN-Grid is winding down a crunch project and transitioning to another and currently has no WU's available) on my PC and will do WCG stuff on my Android tablet, since they're really the only one's I consider worthy that use the standard BOINC Android client. There was a hush for a few days on TN-Grid and DENIS@Home, and I allowed new WU's in on my PC from WCG. It actually worked good for a few days....then the same old same old. Rather than fight to get WU's, to me it's easier to just abort them and block any more from coming in if they're just going to hang. It's sad, but I'd rather have an idle CPU where I MAY get something in at some point from the others that will come through and I can eventually crunch instead of hang ups and blocking it all. |

It definitely feels like a Beta phase.
Until they get more hardware to cope with ARP1 & OPNG downloads, they should consider releasing units in small batches to prevent the overload. It is better to spread the batches over, say, a week than to issue them all at once, swamp the system and have nothing to issue for another week. Mike |
