Lost my streak, aren't getting much work and there's no communication from WCG, so after 17 years and (soon) 64 years of CPU time I'm calling it a day.
----------------------------------------I feel a little bad for the scientists who (has to) rely on WCG, but I'll donate my spare cycles to some other useful project. Maybe I'll be back in the future if the back end is run in a more professional manner than it seems to be now. So long, and good luck to those who stay! But I'll stay because I believe in the projects. It costs almost nothing to allow the work units, especially if my backup project(s) have work. If WCG has steady work again, it is easy enough to shut off the the backup projects. Cheers

what's the point of having a feature like streaks if there's no continuous work?
this is starting to get 'third world' vibes... |

what's the point of having a feature like streaks if there's no continuous work? this is starting to get 'third world' vibes... More precisely, what's the point of still having a feature that used to work, yes, but simply doesn't anymore, and probably never will. Just revomve it, it could free up some database space and query bandwidth to ease up the load on the servers (and then use that capacity to store more ARP?). Another good example is HSTB. What's the point of still saying the project is active if everyone knows that's not true? And my favorite, pretty much every update ever. What's the point of posting updates if the update is just flat out wrong (see the downtime before schedule, HTTP issues that were "resolved" a dozen times, MCM issues recently being solved and people still having problems, etc)? ![]() Want to have an image of yourself like this on? getting the HSTB 2-year badge was hard.
now it'd be impossible. also i think it's been like 3 years since we've seen a beta task... during takeover they said there'll be new projects and stuff. |

Just 'out of further interest' - my 'initial interest' was on 31 July as my machines were rapidly approaching starvation at that point too - has anyone had any WU's with deadlines after 11 August?
----------------------------------------I have a few SCC WU's and a smattering of MCM WU's in the digital pantry.....but these will not last long as my machines have voracious appetites - any idea about whether there will be another flurry of new work or might that be wishful thinking??!!! WU's appear to be uploading OK, but, yet again, there's nothing coming back out of the Kremil Black Hole - very frustrating!!! ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by JSYKES at Aug 7, 2023 3:38:16 PM] |

Between several machines I've got (3) SCC/MCM WU's.left and they're dated 08/12 -- nothing past that.
The WCG Well has run dry -- I turned-on the Backup Projects to keep my machines' queue full. -- RE: As for no updates, someone posted (LINK --> https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg...380_lastpage,yes#lastpost ] that Aug 7th was a holiday(?) in most of Canada (I've yet to Google to see what it is) so that explains why we've not seen an update today. |

The well started to run dry on Friday already, just in time for the weekend...The WCG Well has run dry -- I turned-on the Backup Projects to keep my machines' queue full. Yeah, actually my wall calendar shows that today is "Civic Holiday" in Canada, whatever that might entail, but that indeed is an explanation as to why WCG Towers went totally incommunicado all day, but then makes it even more frustrating that nobody checked the hoppers on Friday before a 3 day weekend for them...Ralf ![]() ![]() |
