Re: Panthers lead game at the half

Dave,

Thank you so much for making a donation on my fundraising page applause hugs - www.justgiving.com/peterwardwchp

I now have international donations from New Zealand and the USA

What a decent bloke you are. Just another reason why MOT is the biggest hearted bunch of people! biggrin

To be honest I wasn't expecting a response but I'm well grateful to ya fella. I wonder if this goodwill will spread to other members too wink

All I know it is going to be a cold one sleeping outside for the night. And considering the weather conditions on the south coast in January, cold temps, rain and wind are sure to be present - just ask dave autumns - he will know what I'm talking about when he looks out of his window in Littlehampton! smile

We currently have over 35 people who will be taking part including the local mayor, school teachers and even a few reverends!

I'll make sure I'll send you some pics of the event early Feb.

What a cool dude cool

Pete

Re: Have You Helped the Homeless

Hey everybody -- I don't know if you saw WardStar's post a bit earlier, but he is asking for sponsors for his homeless night out in the cold on January 28. He's going to sleep out that night with just a blanket and cardboard to raise funds to help provide aid to those who are without homes and must sleep out every night. Let's get behind him. Go to his website to find out more and to donate.

Expletive deleted! You're right Dave, I missed this. But, I think our mate WARDSTAR will find I've made up for my momentary lapse of concentration. Put the lapse down to it being one of my senior moments.

Come on team members. This is in aid of a genuine good cause, and is being mooted by a fine young man. If we can't even support our own members, what are we doing here. Dig deep boys and girls. Hit the 'website' link in the above quote and cough up a couple of quid, dollars, yen, roubles - whatever.

Re: Have You Helped the Homeless

WARDSTAR -- where are you based? I'd like to make a donation, but I only have a Visa Electron card so can't pay online. If you're in the UK, i'll post a cheque. mail me spikey_richie@yahoo.co.uk

P.S. I used justgiving.com when I did my charity walk in October for Children in Crisis. Very pleased with the service they provide.

Re: Panthers lead game at the half

Pete --

I've always had very strong feelings for the homeless. Most of us are one paycheck, three or four showers and a shave away from that state. Some may argue that they put themselves into that situation, and that may be true, but that isn't any reason for us to turn our backs on them. Mental illness or alcohol/drug dependancy that often put them in that situation is not something our fellow human beings can easily pull themselves out of without assistance.

On a side note, one of the most beautiful Christmas days in my entire life was spent with two friends driving to places that I knew that homeless people tended to camp. We had made turkey sandwiches and had collected clothing to give to them to at least help them a bit that day. Every person we helped that day thanked us and wanted to shake hands with us. I still remember each of those handshakes. Even though most of them had gloves of some kind to keep their hands warm, they politely took off their glove to shake hands and I remember how cold those hands were. My hands would stay warm because I had the shelter of a home to keep me warm. Theirs would stay cold because they did not. It is a very strong memory and will stay with me for the remainder of my life.

Go for it people! Our friend's fundraising effort now stands at -

Fundraising target: £400.00
Total raised so far: £233.21

Can the members of this team help him meet, even surpass, his target? Can we raise a miserly £166.79 between us? My bet is, we can. batting eyelashes

For those who are interested, the photos from my peruvian trek can be found here

I personally raised £900 for children in crisis, but I know the others in the group had raised as much as £3k each!

Re: Have You Helped the Homeless

With a total of 2,443 points for the day, and 10,574 overall, I wish you all a very good and restful night. But, there might be one more result returned before midnight UK time.

God! How I hate that 'Security Information' popup rubbish. Is there no way to get rid of the damned thing?

I hate the same thing. I think it depends upon which of the servers you get logged into. Sometimes you will see url's beginning with "https://secure..." and get the popup. Other times it is "http://www..." and you do not. I am not sure if this will always work, but I arrived here with the first type of url beginning with "https". I modified it in the address bar at the top of the browser to be like the second and pressed the "go" button and got to the same page on the non-secure server (I think). I composed this post and submitted it and I seem to have been re-directed to the non-secure server. I will have to try this some more and hope it will work.

Re: Have You Helped the Homeless

Gremlin2

Just use Firefox wink I never get it. Only with IE6. I think the reason lies with the fact that our graphics come from servers outside of the secure one of the WCG.

Another handy benefit of using Firefox are the team website doesn't have a hole in it around the get stats form field, its a bug in IE, you are less likely to have your browser hijacked by some online nasty, it will automatically remember your login info for the wcg, it supports RSS bookmarks and lastly it will cause Bill to improve IE7 wink

I only use IE6 for getting Microsoft Updates and absurdly my Online Banking Service will only operate under IE6biggrin

Get it from here http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ it's only a 5meg download and that's firefox complete and it loads quicker than IE6

Go on make the change (A tale about the MS Security Chief using Firefox as his browser circulates the net biggrin)

All the best
Dave
