Gene may hold key to neutralising HIV - study
Chicago - The Aids virus is especially hard to fight because few people develop antibodies to neutralise it, but American researchers said on Thursday they have found an immunity gene that may offer a new way to fight back. They said the gene Apobec3 helps mice develop antibodies against an HIV-like virus, and they think the same gene in humans could lead to a potent vaccine against the human immunodeficiency virus or HIV. |

I've found many more references that say APOBEC3G is a protein , rather than a gene (or, again, do I need more knowledge in Biology? [sorry]) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/APOBEC3G http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/98105.php http://www.bio-medicine.org/medicine-news-1/U...AIDS-virus-HIV-1-12376-1/ http://www.cbs.umn.edu/BMBB/faculty/Matsuo.H.shtml http://www.physorg.com/news122744303.html http://www.amfar.org/cgi-bin/iowa/td/feature/record.html?record=118 [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dan60 at Sep 8, 2008 1:59:48 PM] |

It would be nice to know if in fact any of these articles noted the work going on for this project at WCG.

Hi Dan,
The gene contains the information that is used to produce the protein. Genes are sub-sections of chromosomes, which are made of DNA. DNA contains the "master copy" of the information, which is stored safely in the protected "nucleus" of a cell. The information contained in the specific structure of the DNA is used to create a "messenger RNA," or mRNA, which is the short-term set of instructions sent outside of the nucleus. The information contained in the structure of the mRNA is used to direct the synthesis of a specfic protein. This is often referred to as the "central dogma" of biology. Apobec3 is the gene that produces the Apobec3G protein. Thanks for your interest, Dr. Alex L. Perryman |

I still wonder, if you please, and the researches have already the answers, whether every person has such Apobec3 gene. Best regards. Dan60 |
