Re: Are there any really clever people out there........

Just two cents to throw in - the effect is UD specific. BOINC varies by about a half year each day but a clear pattern is not present except for a slight advantage to work days.

Re: Are there any really clever people out there........

Thanks knreed

stranger and stranger UD only thinking

If the whole world had Saturdays and Sundays off (I know it doesn't but if it did) Unless everyone didn't go home on Friday until they had just posted back their last WU (Which they don't because there are far more pressing matters like, its the weekend) then statistically everyone is just as likely to post a result on a Monday as on a Tuesday

This week it's gone 105 106 105 and now 103 years at the 3/4 mark

Does everyone start winding down for the weekend on Wednesday Morning?

raised eyebrow

Re: Are there any really clever people out there........

On the May Day bank holiday week almost 3 weeks ago the peak moved to Wednesday a day after folk return to work.

It's (aways) the day after the return to work

Stange but usually true

Re: Are there any really clever people out there........

It sounds as though the computers mostly boot up on Monday morning but keep losing the UD client through the week until they are turned off Friday afternoon. But then, why UD and not BOINC?

Re: Are there any really clever people out there........

So, come into office on monday, get your meetings out of the way and plan rest of week, tuesday really push, start trips on wednesday taking that laptop, thursday, plan the long weekend and or make sure your business trip ends at your home doorstep, rather then the office.

Tuesday i'd imagine the first units come thru from the slow boxes? UTC timing remaining a factor, the further west you are, till dateline.

I still think this Rochester phenomena is interesting. Looks like the uni is working away (none WCG projects) and then set all machines on campus for the weekend crunch.

Also of interest this global weekend Points production....average of 29 million 4 weekends in a row. Slightly increasing weekend on weekend, i suppose due the increasing participation to the grid.

Yesterday May 18, i think we had a WU record, lots of small Rosetta's.....at least i'm getting a bunch.

Any more curious observation on the Grid overall wink

Re: Are there any really clever people out there........

Rochester is the bizarrest (I think that might be a word) graph I have ever seen on a Grid peaks at the weekend !!! Flat as a pancake the rest of the week - weird

When that WU size changes in this case shorter it flushes out all of those stored up Flops. Just wait until the Monsters return

Looking at the stats from this time last year and we were floating around the 60 years a day mark - just shows how far we have come since then.

This Supercomputer of ours gets faster by the week. To all out there crunching you are doing a grand job.

Don't go switching off

Dave

Re: Are there any really clever people out there........

I checked the web traffic and Monday is consistently the peak web traffic day. Not sure why that is, but it seems like people join on Mondays and by Tuesday the first result comes back. Traffic very slowly goes down and then on weekends goes down quite a bit. Of course that doesn't answer why Monday is the peak day.

Blaine.

Wild guess, based on own company's maintenance behaviour:
Network maintenance on Sundays meaning results cannot be posted? That means all the results created over the weekend don't get out until the networks come back Monday AM?

Doesn't explain BOINC/WU difference (Now if I only knew what this meant... blushing )

We can probably assume the bulk of the WCG members are located in the US/Canada. The map shows more in Europe, but I feel that Europeans are more likely to specify their precise country, whereas merkins don't feel the need.

merkin : "American" in Goodolboyese (eye dialect). I blush to give its true meaning. colourful language
